Spark Plug Adapters

Boy am I glad I did not buy the angle plug adapters, NHRA just said they are not legal, another 300 bucks saved. Tom

This is interesting. I saw a letter from the National tech department In California signed by Danny Gracias that stated that the spark plug adaptors were legal. In the order of full disclosure let it be known that i have a set of them.

Tom, is that reversal posted or communicated anywhere official? How were you informed specifically? I saw the letter also so I would guess if they actually made a decision there would be an an official posting somewhere. Jim

Thanks for the link. I have a set and as things go it happens, I understand that, but it is a rather arrogant way to post it. If they would not have specifically allowed them, the "reminder" would have been appropriate. Since NHRA actually approved them and then rescinded the ruling, it would be more appropriate to note the change from their previous ruling. At least they are easy to take out. :)

To all concerned, I did the best that I could to do things by the book. It's just that there are more powerful people involved. This did prove what I found by wet flowing and there is still more to come. They were not a mistake, it was a planned effort.

Re: Spark Plug Adapters

I didn't see any wording about angled spark plug seats. Adapters to me means going from one size plug to another. (I am aware that these used a "smaller plug") However, an "adapter" has many meanings. Isn't an indexing washer a device that "adapts" plug electrode placement to be in a more favorable location for flame propagation? These weren't installed at the factory. So are those "spark plug indexing adapters" now illegal? I'm sure that Conway knows what he is talking about considering that he engineered them. I guess if you are going to toss Conway's innovation you might as well take a look at all the SS heads that have been welded up and redrilled to optimum plug location. At least we all know that operation is supposedly against the rules and to my knowledge, (inside information limited) never had a letter approving it. For what its worth,(very little) I have several "letters" that aren't worth the paper they are printed on. In my opinion, Conway engineered and got "approved" a device that made some hp.
With that "reminder" I would be very suspicious that someone is trying to get a patent on some similar device under a different name. Not like it hasn't happened before.

Shouldn't the reminder read?: Any device or procedure that causes relocation of the spark plug from its original factory placement or angle is prohibited.
At least it sounds more like someone was indicating a rule and not creating another "grey area".
