Live from Byron

It's very wet here. We fortunately escaped potentially extremely severe weather. It rained VERY hard, but no twisters, though we were under a tornado warning the whole time.

IHRA is now trying to dry the track by the starting line so they can finish scraping it. Test and Tune cancelled due to obvious reasons. Sun is out now, it dropped twenty degrees from highs before the rain hit. Supposed to be beautiful tomorrow!

Come join the fun!

How is the grass area on the Byron hill side? I wont be coming until Sat morning and I am sure the asphalt will be filled up by then. I hope they do a good job of scraping the track. About three weeks ago we were up there for Midwest Super Comp and they had just scraped the track the night before and it was terrible the next day. Finally by the end of the day we were able to get down the track.,

We are parked on the top of the hill. The bottom is a swamp!

Local weather reports are that we received four inches of rain in ONE HOUR last night!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything is wet, but it's sunny, breezy and warm, should dry fast. We were supposed to start racing at 9 am, but it's after 11 and they are still working on the track. I think we are getting closer to starting, but no word yet.

Air - there is no air. Barometer is still under 29, and humid. Come with your best mid-west mid summer hot and muggy tune up.

Re: Live from Byron

We still have not started racing. They did just announce we are getting close and it will be an 1/8 mile event today only due to water continuing to bubble up after 1000 feet.

They have drilled holes and vacuumed water for hours today trying to get it all out of the surface. The beautiful sunshine is exacerbating the problem, causing the water to heat up under the ashphalt and boil out of the track.

So 1/8th mile it is. Ugh. Should be calling us to the lanes anytime. Meanwhile Ron Leek is keeping us entertained over the PA reading through the racer's tech cards and making observations regarding occupations, sponsors, etc. He could read the NY Times obituaries and make them fun to listen to! WOW~~~~!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Beth...thanks for the reporting and updates from those who had to work and couldn't make it there. Hope the track and weather cooperate.

Re: Live from Byron

Ran first round of Stock and Superstock. Track temp 130 degrees at the beginning of Stock qualifying. I thought something was wrong with my car, pulled third and it was laboring so hard to get something to burn, it just bogged. My 1/8th mile time is over a tenth off of last weekend. They are doing all they can to make the cars hook, but many had trouble. A few spun so bad (including Alex) they just ditched the run.

As far as I know, we get another qualifying run before elminations. Nineteen superstockers, not sure but I think around twenty or twenty one stockers. Still no sheets.

Just called it for the night due to no lights. We start with third round of hot rod at 9:45 am tomorrow and finish the 1/8th mile race then. Top Sportsman was in the lanes for the second round when it was called so they will have an extra round to run.

Alex is still in with the Superstocker! :D

Back to racing this morning at 9:45. Cloudy, muggy and again, no air. Alex won his round this morning and has a bye into the finals!

Happy Father's Day! :D

The powers that be decided to run the Sportsnationals as an 1/8th mile race today. Bummer. I think it had to do with all the programming changes they would have had to make in between races and it would have taken quite a while. Weather is threatening so that was a smart move. It might dissepate before it gets here. Fingers crossed!

We have finished our one qualifying hit for the Sportsnationals in Stock & Superstock. Not sure how many stockers, 16 superstockers. It's a bit slower yet today.
