how many of you guys are REALLY interested in a NHRA-accepted stock piston? kinda need a head count... oversize? any other comments? who's paying $$ for running their pistons? |
Re: 290 amc stocker pistons?
Brian Fain tried to get a Venola (i spelled that wrong i'm sure) approved years ago ! with no luck so he went SS racing

Try Eric Pearson I think him and his dad could tell you what you want.

Re: 290 amc stocker pistons?
I've had both AMC 390 & AMC 360 pistons made for NHRA Stock. It's no big deal. Just send your OEM piston to the manufacturer you choose and they will take care of NHRA acceptance and approval. They will then send you your complete order. You won't get "bulk" discounting if you get a bunch of 290 racers together.
As far as who is REALLY interested in NHRA Stock accepted pistons, that would be EVERYBODY that is interested in competing in NHRA Stock! You can use factory pistons but you would be giving up a lot. |
Re: 290 amc stocker pistons?
If you get a piston made, make sure you get into the hands of someone like Bruce Bachelder, or make sure you get a signed delivery reciept ! ....I sent a BRC 390 piston to Glendora several years ago, about the time Jim Skelly was moved to another position. .......Short story, after asking for the status on it's acceptance, it seems no one knows of it's existance !!.......... It's someones pencil holder, or door stop, and It was suggested I send another sample. !!...........Tom

Send your sample to CP, the other brands mentioned aren't much better than the slug you have now.

Re: 290 amc stocker pistons?
I've had them made by JE, CP and now I just had a set made by Diamond. Of all the pistons I've had made, Diamond by far was best. I, or my machine shop, has had issues with both J&E & CP. I'm talking expediancy, cost, problems in not following instructions, all this goes into my opinion of how I was handled as a customer. I'm not slamming them because these wern't "end of the world" problems, but so far Damond is the only one that gets a "Diamond" rating from me.
I've also heard good word lately about Weisco. I've always had the manufacturer send the piston in for approval as opposed to what Tom Goldman did. Not sure if that helps from loosing parts or not. I believe NHRA.com has a contingency sponsor list on-line. |
