Weight Placement

If you have to add weight to a race car, where is the best place to mount it. I get conflicting opinions. I have heard over the axle is the best place, I've heard that closest to the rear bumper, and I heard another opinion to put it on the right side over the axle. Which is the right way to do it?

Also is there any publications that deal with stock/super stock chassis set up? Thanks.

For a stocker you can mount a weight box (max 100 lbs loaded)
over the right rear corner, must be bolted to frame with 1/2" bolts.

Any other added weight must be bolted or welded in place.

Re: Weight Placement

The right rear corner is always the best place to start with permanent weight...... ..I always put the removable weight closest to the rear axle in the middle of the trunk, and use it only to correct for the scales . .....This way it does not significantly upset the corner weights or the chassis reaction ....Permantly mounted weight can have a significant effect on the chassis reaction and vehicle reaction times . .....Too far back and too high on an otherwise good hooking car ,can really pick up the reaction times and turn a good car into a pain in the butt to find a spot on the tree. ...[see my avatar!]

Re: Weight Placement

Call Gary Wisecarver or Mike P MPR for the correct weight placement. Besides the right rear and above the axle try the passenger location (underneath the car) and in front of the right rear tire if you can.

Re: Weight Placement

I agree with Tom, well said. Leaf springs seperate the rear to push down on the rear hosuing and coil springs squat to push down of the rear. Over the rear housing for leaf sping and in front of the coil spring to benefit from the weight pushing down on the coil springs.
