1969 camaro Big Block trans mount???

I know the big block mounts in a 69 camaro move the engine over to the passenger side of the car.
So do I need a trsns. mount to compensate for the movement
All Big blocks with autos came with 400 TH, and that mount is not the same as the 350TH/stick mount.
The 400 is a tube style.
The 350 is a more flat stamped plate type.
What about drive shaft alignment with the rear-end?
Any input will be helpfull.
Thanks

Re: 1969 camaro Big Block trans mount???

Big block engines were offset 1 inch to the right by means of asymmetric brackets. 1967-68 BB frame mount brackets are 2-1/2 inches wide (but not the same as SB) and use the same engine mounts as 67-68 302ci and 350ci. For 69, BB frame mount brackets were redesigned to use the new thicker, narrower, engine mount also used by 302ci and 350ci. BBC bracket pairs are easily spotted because the left bracket is noticeably taller than the right in order to achieve the engine offset. If its only shifted one inch over the length of the engine/tranny combo which is aprox. 5-5 1/2 feet you probably wouldn't even notice it in the crossmember. To my knowledge the crossmembers are all the same meaning trans mount is centered. I could be wrong though.

MEXJOE,

You may have better success asking this question at camaros.net, recently this was talked about over there and I can't recall what the answer or solution was.

Try posting it in their 'performance' section of the forum, I am sure you will get an answer in less than a day.

Hope this helps,

Michael

yeah, ya do.
if not, the eng/trans will be crooked in the car.
you'll eat u-joints and fight vibrations....

trust me, i've built a few non-stock type cars;)
as in street rods...

All 69 Camaro's use the same trans mount. Powerglide,350,400,Muncie ...... All the same. There are at least 3 different crossmembers though, but they all use the same mount.

what I was saying is that if you move the front of the engine over to the right and NOT move the trans the same amount, the eng/trans package will be crooked in the car.
not a good thing...

Re: 1969 camaro Big Block trans mount???

Not sure this helps anyone. When I switched from my powerglide to a T-400 I had to change trans crossmembers to the T-400 crossmember. The aftermarket NPD crossmember bolted in fine, but the trans mount holes still didn't line up. I then had to cut off the trans mounting flange and move it over at least 1/2 of an inch. Try to get an original crossmember for better alignment.
