Re: Trailer tires
Not sure what those are, look for a 10 ply LT tire and not an ST trailer tire. The LT'S will hold up much better Goodyear Marathons don't last, Mine always blew out well before the tread was gone even with the tire pressure at max, and go with a 16" wheel if you can afford to.

Re: Trailer tires
Just looked at Goodyear's web site. They now have a "E" rated 16 inch trailer tire. This is new.

Re: Trailer tires
The Goodyear G159 was replaced by the 614 Goodyear and is available in the 14 ply tire used on many stackers. However there seems to be a problem on the 3 axle trailers. We blew out one G159 235/85/R16 14 ply and one 614, both with at least 80% left on them on the last trip to Memphis, one each way. We have used those tires on all kinds of commercial vehicles with great results except for the 3 axle stackers. I just ordered 17.5 tires and wheels for my stacker. That seems to work for the triple axle rig. When those come in I am going to sell my other tires. I have about 10 American Racing 16 X 8, 8 hole wheels and at least that many tires. I wouldn't use them on a three axle trailer, but on a two axle or dual wheels (one ton etc) you absolutely cannot wear them out. If you need more info, call me 985-804-6161

If you don't use your trailer on a regular basis, 2-3 times a month, you need to park it on some wood. I was having the same problem in the spring time and started using 2x12's to park the trailer on. Cement and even the ground suck all the chemicals out of the tire. |
Re: Trailer tires
Harbor Freight sells 4pc canvas tire covers (lot# 93714) 16"W X 29"H for $9.99.

Re: Trailer tires
Hey Frank
I have always used the Michelin XPS Rib..... they literaly don't wear out. If you keep them covered and treated they will last forever. when I had other tires.... I would always get at least one flat if I went out past PA or MD... over a 500 mile trip. Once I switched to these I never had a flat again. good luck in indy |
