Went to the auto parts store looking at all the chemicals for "cleaning" your diesel injectors--Just add it to the fuel tank it it goes to work!!!!!!!!! so the story says----does any of tis stuff work and do any of you use it??? Comp 387

There is a product called Dee-Zol, from Bell Additives in Lakewood, FL that addresses all the situations you have with a diesel engine. It was for injectors, algae, condensation, performance gain, fuel economy, etc. kinda like several additives in one. It was a product for the commercial truck industry.

I have a duramax that I have had since new. It is a 2002 6 speed crewcab. It has 188k on it. I have not found an additive that "fixes" a real problem. However, I do run additives every tank now. I have gone back and forth and it seems to not only improve mpg, but make the truck just flat run better. Enought to offset the cost of the additive. This is especially true for me in the winter since it bumps the cetane rating. I have used Lucas, Seafoam and DieselKleen. The DieselKleen is what I use most often. I look for it to be on sale and get the 100 gallon treatment jugs. They work for me. One thing that is apparent however, is that it is difficult to find a dealership near me ( Chicago Suburbs) that has a clue about working on diesels. If you have a problem that you cannot service, don't assume the dealer knows anything about what they are doing. I had warranty problems with my flywheel, and those guys were inept. I ended up buying my own set up and converting to a different style altogther. When I asked about injectors, they just said they could replace them all and that was about all they knew....Ask around to get a good shop. Jim.

P.S. the fuel filtration thing is critical to stay up on. Make sure you carry a spare filter and if you have problems with filtration, you might consider going with a heavy duty fuel filter system. Some of them use Catepiller filters that look pretty good. The algae thing is real, but Ihaven't had the problem. If your truck sits more than drives, maybe that is an issue.

I'm not a fan of all these fuel additives but when I used the Lucas diesel additive I noticed an increase of 3/4 MPG on a 38 ft Cummins motorhome. I was spending $7.00 to save $15.00 at 3 year ago pricing. It showed me with facts that 2 round trips from AZ to IL did save money.

I've been adding a quart of Marvels Mystery oil to a tank in my motorhome lately. Seen at least a 1 mpg gain.

I have been driving diesel's over 25 years. I use Diesel Kleen by Power Service for overall use.
Noticable increase in power & approx. 1 mpg more.
Diesel Kleen 911 is the one to use if you have dirty fuel or water in fuel. It will clean it up. At least by having these products with you, you can get off the road. Doing nothing will get you a road call.
