Wade, the type of fluid required is determined by the type of friction materials used. Modern friction materials are compatible with synthetic fluids. Type F fluid will normally still give a more "positive" shift.

Wade use the type F as you should know PG's love temp! If your not going to the water box with 150 degrees of temp in the trans your leaving ET back @ the trailer! ;) p.s. it's the only thing I don't use synthetic in.

Try the Royal Purple. I had a buddy that helped with some of the development of it & I tested some in P/G's. The way I understand it they have reduced the friction modifyers to make better clutch lock up. I found it made all the roller bearings I was installing in P/G's last longer than Type "F". Never saw any clutch or steel wear or burning, either.

amsoil also has a very good product called supershift,it also has a very low amount of friction
modifiers and makes things run cooler.

Re: Synthetic Auto Trans Fluid....

I'll second the Amsoil Supershift recommendation. My 904 trans lasts for years and much less "debris" compared to conventional fluids. Synthetics hold up to heat much better than regular oils and heat is the primary problem-causer in automatics.
