Cam timing problem lt1
Installed new bullet racing cam, put cam in at 104. Noticed on motor that the crank timing gear was at 4 degrees retard. Is this is correct or how much advance timing should we run? ... There seems to be a lack of bottom end power after all new parts and best of everything put it. I run the car in C/SA .. 94 camaro lt1....
Thank you very much |
Re: Cam timing problem lt1
Please describe the method you used to degree the cam in, and show the math as well. If the method and the math are correct, where the crank gear is does not matter.

Re: Cam timing problem lt1
Sean... if you degreed the cam to 104... then it doesn't matter where the cam \ crank gears are located. They put the marks on the timing sets for assemblers that don't degree cams... I've found some Bullet cams way off on there dowel to centerline location... if you degree it properly you won't have any problem... usually if you put the cam on a stocker in 2 degrees ahead of the lobe seperation, your in the ball park

I had seen you reply before I submited I would of delited as your right on tract... |
Re: Cam timing problem lt1
No apology needed. My concern is just to make sure that the cam is in where they think it is. Then we can go from there.
And the reason I say that is because I always check my math, my method, and the card about 4 times, because I've caught myself making errors. When I thought I had it right. And I've seen screwed up cam cards. Jere Stahl busted my chops pretty bad about it a couple of times. |
Re: Cam timing problem lt1
If you are using a crank trigger on an LT1, moving the dowel pin won't matter. If you are still using the Optispark distributor (Your probably not.) you will need to make adjustments in the computer for the changed timing offset.
