Which aftermarket bolts?

Re: Rod Bolt Torque

I think they are ARP bolts. As we remember the tourque was 43 ft lbs. The bolts have a dimple for a strrech gauge so they are a premium bolt.

Re: Rod Bolt Torque

ARP bolts will have ARP roll marked into the bolt head.

Thanks, I guss there not ARP bolts. Maybe MR Gasket???? Anyone know what the torque is for the factory bolts are?

Re: Rod Bolt Torque

The factory torque is about 32 to 35. However, that will not properly load an aftermarket bolt, and will likely cause a failure. Usually SPS marks their stuff just like ARP does. I'd be VERY hard pressed to use an unknown bolt. If you don't know what they are, get a machine shop to put some ARP bolts in for you.

What kind of nut do they have?... Footed or crush lock/crimped? Stock for 11/32 bolt is 35 w oil

Re: Rod Bolt Torque

After researching a little more They are either ARP high performance rod bolts or pioneer bolts. Looks like both manufacturers recommend 40 ft lbs. The nuts are a standard thread no locknut.

Re: Rod Bolt Torque

Mike,
The Pioneer for that engine use a crimp lock nut. It is crimped on 3 sides at the top of the 1/2 in socket sized nut. I have 2 sets of these in stock & both are alike. The ARP should have a footed style nut. The pioneer torque is suggested with oil. I think the ARP is with Moly. I'll have to look that up when I get to the shop. Most SPS bolts are marked on the head of the bolt.
