Hydraulic Clutch

Can anyone tell me if a in the bell housing hydraulic throw out bearing is legal in S/S? Also is anyone actually running a hydraulic system now and if so whose bearing are you useing?

I know it's legal in IHRA not sure about NHRA. I ran it in my 66 Chevy II at the IHRA pro-am in san antonio last month. Mine is a McLeod setup. Ive since changed back to a mechanical setup personal preference. I have everything you need if interested. My parts have 5 runs on them.

Hi Ed
My request for usage of a hydraulic cluhch/throw out bearing was turned dowy by NHRA with the following rational.

Because it provides an avenue for a potential delay device (or the perception of same) and there is no real need for it in any car that I am aware of. The tech guys are in overload enforcing the existing rules and their interpretations and we do not need to burden them any more. I participated in the decision process w.r.t. your request and support the decision. There is no need to open this can of worms and the various interpretations that could evolve from it.
This answer is from Div. 2 tech. dir. Jim Collins with the concurrence of Len Imrrogno,Jim Skelly & Eric Lowe. I understand it even though I don't like it, so I'm off designing & fabbing mechanical clutch linkage.

What about in a car that came with a hydraulic clutch from the factory?

If the car was OEM with a hydraulic clutch then it's OK....because that's "stock".

But you can run a hydraulic button to release your trans brake in super stock to delay the reaction.doesnt seem fair.

wait till they add the delay boxes to SS.....that will be fair! let the man run a hydraulic clutch if he wants! ( B. S. )
