Lt 1 ???
Does any body know of any body running a FACTORY stock short block in NHRA stock elimanator. I am thinking about trying it for the first year. I allready picked up a nice set of heads and a cam done by Bud Rowe. So I am thinking about just doing the heads and cam and then have a brand new motor done for next year .I plan on doing headers,12 bolt raer, all susspension work ETC. and just get the car out and see if I could run under the index. Any help and advice would be grate Thanks

Re: Lt 1 ???
I met a racer who had an LT-1 Camaro and he said he had a stock shortblock with just a cam and he did the heads. He was able to run under the index by a few tenths running in C/FIA in decent air. I think he broke it after some runs though. I helped him correct a problem with his Accel DFI.

Re: Lt 1 ???
What is the weak link on a stock short block? Is it the rod?

Re: Lt 1 ???
If it has powdered rods, yes, the rod is the weak link. That doesn't mean that's the first, or only thing that will fail. But I'd replace the rods if I was going to race it.

Re: Lt 1 ???
Do you think if I was to take a stock short block and install a good set of rods in it I would be able to get away with running it like that for about 100 runs. I am just trying to get the car out and get some runs on it to see if the susspension works and then have a good bullet built.

Re: Lt 1 ???
Alan is correct about the rods, and while it is down, get someone to hone it with torque plates. Also, the Optispark is also a weak link, go ahead and purchase the MSD Rotor and Cap kit and this should take care of that problem!:)

Re: Lt 1 ???
That's a thought Woodro. If you take it apart, to replace the rods, you'll have to balance it as well. But if you'll hone it with torque plates (have this done by a shop capable of doing RACE work) and get a ring package (made for Stock Eliminator) from some one like Total Seal, Childs and Albert, or Ackerly and Childs, and set the deck height, you'll get a good return on your money. Woodro can probably steer you right on a ring pack. His little LT1 whips up on my 427!

Not really. I'd want to pour it and bore it before I'd invest in new pistons, and it'd also get align honed. It'd need a fully prepped crank (blueprint stroked and indexed) as well. A lot more money and work. |
Re: Lt 1 ???
We've done it both ways, using a stock short block and a "done" short block. Give me a call. Glenn.(516) 599-7182.
