'71 Thermoquad
Looking to purchase a '71 thermoquad for a stocker. Found a 4972S for sale. I would like to know how much I should expect to pay for one that is stock and untouched. The party wants $450. Is that too much or is it a good deal?

Re: '71 Thermoquad
$450 is way out of line. VanLant or Jim Wahl have cores and can set you up with a good TQ ready to race. They’ll set you up with Holley jets if that’s what you prefer.
After seeing Rod and John’s posts it’s painfully obvious all of my TQ knowledge is F Body related...so in the immortal words of Emily Litella “never mind”. |
Re: '71 Thermoquad
For those of you that do not know. the 71 is a different animal from the 72 and later TQ's. It takes entirely different jets and in my opinion is a better carb.
Ron tried to call you went to voice mail. |

Rod is Right......
71 is a totally different animal than any other year. I bought two used ones for $600 and I was darn glad to find them. |
Re: '71 Thermoquad
It looks like $450 isn't too far out of line. Ebay has a 71 automatic core (4973S) for sale for $299, and a 71 manual core (4972S) sold last week for $271 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-1971-...sAAOSwkelb~0Pz).
I'd be real interested in the HP delta you find between the 71 model and the later TQ's! :D |
Re: '71 Thermoquad
The E bay Carbs appear to be pretty rough.
