"Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, not sure how you all feel, but I'm sure happy racing season has started. I am not at the Winternationals, but I do have my right hand man Timothy Fletcher reporting in from Pomona. We will try to get as many photos as we can. Timothy will also be doing a live stream on Facebook for Stock 1st round qualifying as long as there is a good signal. I will post the link here tomorrow around 11am and also embed it here for people to watch later.
Today was sunny and temps were in the low 80's. Timothy rolled in the gates about 11am, no line getting in and parked. The credential line on the other hand was a little long. |

Uh oh! Another pink MoPar! Jim

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
lol
If that's the car I'm thinking of, it's been around for a while. I believe it was originally run as a 1970 340-6 T/A Challenger but now is a 1971 340 TQ combo. If someone can confirm/correct that info, I'd appreciate it. Always liked Challengers and almost built one for Stock before my Dart Sport. |

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
The Challenger was built in Denny Sanders garage as a surprise for Linda Myers. If I remember correctly she won an all Mopar race at the old Las Vegas track. Event was called the Pacific Nationals. I remember is was very hot that weekend.

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
A localboy, Santee Grossi, seems to be driving it now.

http://classracer.com/classforum/att...2&d=1518045918 [/QUOTE That's an interesting conversion from F/SA to SS/CX. It's a V6? |
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Thanks for the pictures, Ken! Makes my heart beat fast and puts a smile on my face. I just love Stock/SS race cars!
|
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Great to have some reports and look forward to the live streaming. Perhaps Tim got some sort of contingency sheet he could share? As usual NHRA is up against it for getting something out on who is going to be posting this year. What they just put out doesn't offer much help.

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Interesting: What V-6 runs F/SA?
F/SA 11.85 index vs SS/CX 10.80 index I would like to hear the story on that. Bet there is more to it than a decal change. Want to take bets that there is an engine transplant? |
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Nope, no bets. Hate to lose. I'm working on a SS Modified conversion for my 68 Mustang. Modified classes are GT style rules - any engine same badge. Not many limits on head work or valves. CX is 10.5 lb/cu in 2500 lbs min. naturally aspirated 4 or 6 cylinder. The hood designation is hard to read enlarged, but my cash is in the 250 cid pot. 7 mains available in nodular iron in the 70's.

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
I've had the pleasure of parking next to Alvin. He is a very nice gentleman. When he runs it in F/SA with the V8 it runs well. He hasn't had a lot of success with the V6 yet.

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
I'm very excited about the new season being underway. That means it's that much closer to Feb. 22nd. That's when I escape the Great White North and fly to Phoenix.
For the first time since 2015, I'll be attending both the Phoenix National event and the Regional. I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with everyone in the Stock/Super Stock pits. Good luck in 2018, everyone! |

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Thanks Ken for all the photos and the facebook video link. I was able to see several people make runs that I know.
The '68 Chevelle wagon is from up here in Div.6 and belongs to Norm Lapoint. Probably had issues that prevented him from running the car. I hope he comes on here and let's us know, or someone else that knows. It shows Robert Pond in a '67 Fairlane. I just looked at the photos from Ken/John and saw Robert Pond in a '64 Thunderbolt. Question answered. |

Ron, its our pleasure.
This mornings weather was a little cooler, but still a great day for racing. He are some shots of Stockers in the lanes this morning. The first photo is the first winner and loser of the 2018 season. |
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
i stand corrected it appears Robert Pond appears to have the Calvert thunderbolt. I thought he bought John Cooper’s thunderbolt as well.
|
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Does Prusiensky's Pro Stock Dart have a GM engine? I just checked the entry and it's entered as a Mopar engine.

Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
I wonder if either 64 Fairlane will stay automatic for long? Calverts used to be a stick car earlier on.
|
Re: "Live From" Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals
Interesting new developments here. Robert Pond with two slushbox TBolts !t looks like he has gotten the hang of that one quickly.
The V6 is interesting, any pictures of the engine? I assume one of the 90's Busch series oval track engines rather than a 3.7 Mustang or 4.0L Explorer version. |
