rear gear change for the Super 10

Racers,

I will be changing from a 6.0 gear to a 5.86 gear. Originally I bought the 6.0 US gear from Strange then sent it for Cryo. treatment. The 6.0 only has 10 runs yet it looks new.

Do we have any up-to-date feedback in ref to gear brands? Is the US gear still a good choice? Other valid choices?

Any update about Richmond gears?

You might think about going to a taller tire if possible. That's a pretty small gear change. A 2 inch larger roll out would accomplish the same result. I assume you are going to a 350 combo now. I ran my 350 with a 6.17 and a 101 roll out Radial tire with good results. I put a 5.86 gear in the car now. I had less engine breakage with the 6.17. I guess that put less strain on parts even though the trap RPM was a bit higher.

Less gear and smaller diameter tire should accelerate a bit quicker.

Dwight,

that is also my thought.

I am curious about the Richmond gear quality. In earlier post some comments were made about Richmond "not what it once was"

Do we have any feedback about Motive Gear or US/Strange Gear?

Part of my question is answered. Motive does not offer a 9310 material gear.

I believe Richmond Gear purchased Motive Gear.
The high quality gears are manufactured in Italy; the others, in India.
An excellent brand is Gleason, used by NASCAR teams.

New Gleason gears are very expensive, however you can find them "lightly used" from the NASCAR teams.I bought a set that had already been lightened,REM coated and run in.I believe Gleason makes a drag race specific gear set if you want to spend the money.

I expect a 5.86 set is not the usual NASCAR ratio.

Yes they are; you can find Gleason 5.67, 5.83, 6.14 and 6.50 gears in Ebay all the time.
As a matter of fact, yesterday they had a set of used Gleason 5.86 gears that sold for $145.00. They were lightened and REM coated. Look also for Visteon gears; they are made for NASCAR teams.
