Firing up with the carb cap on

Just a shade tree racer here and I have a question reference leaving the carb cap on when turning the engine over. 1050 Dominator on a 700 horse BBC. I was setting timing after a top-end rebuild and without the fuel pump on I was checking where the timing was (car was not running). In lieu of drawing air, which it couldn't with the carb cap on, it pulled the fuel out of the carb into the engine.

I'm just curious what could be damaged aside from the power valves if anything.

Thanks for any response.

Don't think that would hurt the power valves. I would be pulling all the spark plugs before cranking it over just to make sure you don't hydro lock it and bend a rod or break something.
