New Utah track?

A group of racers approached the Price Utah county commissioner's with the proposal of a new NHRA Div. 7 track.
Price, Utah is 87 miles south of Salt Lake and 64 miles north of I-70.
With all the negative happenings and track closures, maybe there is hope for racers in the west?
The kicker, Price is at 5600 feet of elevation.

Re: New Utah track?

Sure hope this happens. We have been to Price to shoot in long range competitions. Nice area. Met lots of nice people. Lots of wide open space.

I received this from a friend Tony last night.

Desert Thunder Raceway in Price, Utah is going to build a NHRA sanctioned drag strip by 2023.
Watched a presentation to the county commissioner in Carbon County UTah....Track to sanctioned by nphra,, suppose to up and running for the 2023 season...
Track will be on private land . There is an existing oval dirt track there.

Don’t mind John, if he isn’t grumbling about something he’s not happy, LOL 😂

Only 200 feet lower then Denver. Sounds great to me!

Re: New Utah track?

I googled the town. Looks like a fun place with a prehistoric museum (ancestors) and yes places to stay if needed. The racers will be like a Woodstock scene invading the town. Good for the area's income I bet. Half the tracks we race at in division 7 are altitude adjusted. Rearend gears are stacked like cord wood out here.

The town has a great following for circle track racers. We or I should say the "$" would be welcomed as well. Kind of like the old days at Douglas Wyo.

Like I stated = A new Track is Good News these days and
would look forward to attending a Divisional Race if scheduled.

I have been to Price several times towing my racing
equipment thru there.

My Point was:
It is a pretty little town of about 8,000 people but rather remote
with limited infrastructure to support a large influx of Racers.

Salt Lake City is a metro area of 1,250,000 with abundant
infrastructure and located on one of the biggest North / South
Interstates in the country with plenty of facilities on it on at
a regular distance for traveler going up to the area.

Really Pete!!!!

Check out Pete's posts on this Site and Facebook

When I post on here it is to get help with information OR

If folks think I am here to argue and complain = I will reluctantly
withdraw from this site other than buying and selling stuff.

John as you know I say things that rub salt in the wounds at times on this sight. You have a big heart and wide shoulders to let it roll off. By the way thanks for the message. I appreciate it for sure. Looks like we'll see each other soon.

Re: New Utah track?

John, I don't think there was any malicious intent in Pete's post. Hope you are well.

On the new track..I've been to that Walmart in Price...Lots of auto parts, restaurants, etc.
Most racers are self contained these days, anyway.
Lots of Phx racers would go to SLC to race. This would be an hour or two closer with less traffic..
I don't see the down side, in this day and age of tracks closing , left and right.

Re: New Utah track?

I just did a search on google maps and I see that the town has it all. The best part of this location is the small town charm. When my wife (R.I.P.) and I traveled in 2015 we found the small town food to be some of the best around.

With the way things are going, this might be the wave of the future - new tracks on private land. Sounds like a fun adventure for the racers traveling there.

Okay John you took me way too seriously here, I was attempting a little humor and obviously it was not received as such.

So first of all let me apologize to you, I am truly sorry!

Secondly anyone else that may have misunderstood or thought that I was taking a real swipe at John, nothing could be further from the truth. As John states accurately he and Jon have always gone out of their way to give me a helping hand whenever I needed it and indeed I greatly enjoy their comradery whenever we can be together.

So please don't go anywhere John, speaking purely for myself " I'd miss the **** out of you!"

I couldn't agree more as a similar thought crossed my mind when I saw the 5600ft comment. I hope the crew at that track is either the same crew that RMR had, or are their likeness. Moreover, if the Price people are anything like the folks in Douglas, Wyoming were, they'll make me even more glad I upgraded my tow vehicle, with the goal of racing in states other than Arizona and Nevada and at not just D7 tracks.

Just as The Cannery Hotel/Casino, La Quinta, Super 8, and most recently Motel6 realized a market for them, so will Price.
