Trailer TMS question

Looking at tire monitor systems for a six wheel trailer. Lots of options here and my concern is the length of the sensor that screws to the valve stem. Seems to me it would be easy to "clip" one off the first time it rubs against anything because it hangs out so far. Anybody got around this?

I've had mine for more than 3 years.

Thanks Dan for the response and all of the overwhelming feedback from the other members on this site. I purchased a unit from Truck System Technologies, Model # 507SE from my local auto parts supplier. It comes with the "standard" sensors that screw onto the valve stems. Don't get the flow thru sensors because they are much longer and would be easy to brush off. The added length is 13/16" and if you remove the anti-theft feature it will only be 1/16" shorter.

You will like it. It takes all of the anxiety out of traveling. No more having to swerve to try and see the trailer tires. Enjoy.

What distance will these transmit? I have a 28ft trailer with a 35ft toter. I have heard they will not transmit that far without some type of signal booster.

These systems are used extensively in the trucking industry, generally by the top tier companies that use the aero skirts and such because they know how to protect their investments. Range (both with and without a repeater or booster) is just one of the selection criteria used. TechnoRV is one of the bigger dealers that prefer the TST system (a favorite in the RV circles) but you’ll need their repeater while the Tire Safeguard brand boasts range as one its strong points. Lots of YouTube videos out there to help you select. Just get one that doesn’t drop signal often, can program alarm settings, etc....like I said lots of criteria, they are just a very good idea.
