K-frames on Mopar

Has anyone welded up the seams on the k-frame ( just spot welds now)? Do you think it's necessary?

Weld reinforcement around the LCA shaft boss for sure. Steering box mount needs some help too.

Never had a problem with a stock one EXCEPT in early 70's when I acid dipped them (Bad Idea)

Mike, if you put a notch in it for oil pan removal, as per rule book, make sure to off-set it 2" to the right.

It certainly can't hurt. In addition to frame connectors and roll bars/cages, I've heard of cases where people have also welded the body & frame seams on Mopars, all in an effort to minimize any bit of potential flex in the uni-body chassis.

With all the welding that is needed, it would be necessary to tie the "K" member down to steel plate to keep it from looking like a corn chip after welding. To reduce some stress from welding, peen it with a numatic chipping hammer. Let it cool before removing.

Thanks for all the answers, now I have to take the fresh paint off. Wish I'd thought of this before. LOL

AND While you're at it. When you brace that steering box mount.....don't you DARE cut it off and move it over for more header clearance.
