Trailer tire recommendation

Looking to replace the 6 year old Goodyear Marathon's on my 48' tri-axle trailer. 235/80R16 load range "D" Tires have only 15,000 mile but do have some weather cracking. Really seems these are not "enough" tire for this trailer although previous owner says never had any tire problem's. Don't know however if he ran for 4 hours at a time @70MPH on a 95 degree day. Any recommendations out there? Thanks

Regardless of the brand bet ya it recommends speeds NO MORE THAN 60-65 MPH!!!!!!----- also watch your tire pressure--HEAT KILLS trailer and RV tires---- every 4 years plan on a new set of tires for either a RV or trailer they oxidize and because they are constantly over loaded just plain wear out but from the inside out--get the highest load range ya can find/afford you will be better off in the long run too-- my $.02

Get load range G tires and inflate them to reccomended pressure, you won't be dissapointed.

I just put 6 new Goodyears on mine (235-80-R16) E rated. But I only drive 65 MPH and always make sure their up to max pressure. My old ones were seven years old (still had good tread) and I didn't want to take a chance on blowing one.........I sold the old tires to a farmer for hay wagons for $20. each and he was tickled pink....

I hope you have better luck with maxxis than I did. put a set on my trailer several years ago, and after the third one developed a bubble where the tread and sidewall meet, and the hassel's of trying to get them warranted, I took all of them off and would never use that brand again.

I'm glad to hear you had no problems, maybe the one's I bought were off of a bad run when they were assembled. I, like you, keep my tires at max inflation and my trailer is stored inside. For fair reporting, my trailer is heavy. It is a 34' stacker. Two cars, golf cart, tools, drum of fuel, etc. I, like you, also would not use the goodyear marathons either.

Re: Trailer tire recommendation

Well thanks for everyone's opinion. Seems everyone is coming up with what I am finding out. Although the 235/80R16 Goodyear Marathon's are rated at 3440 lbs at 80psi (they only weight 40lbs and only have 11/32 of tread) people have had issues with them. So whats better? There are very few tire manufactures that make a F or G rated tire (I can only find Chinese stuff and they seem to have mixed reviews). Looks like Goodyear LT235/85R16 G614 commercial tire or Michelin XPS rib (both of these tires weigh 55lbs a piece and have 15/32 of tread!) Seems this would be my best choice but they come with a big price tag. Just was hoping someone had a less expensive quality tire. Any other ideas out there. Really would hate to pop a tire because it almost always takes out the fender as well. Bill
