12 bolt differential cover
I have mine off to do a little repair work. Before I put it back on, thought I would ask about the ones that have the bolts through the back. This is supposed to increase strength and rigidity to the main caps? Wouldnt this also increase bearing pre load? Is there really any advantage to these?

Re: 12 bolt differential cover
No scientific proof, but my 12 bolt gears seemed to last longer after switching to one of those LPW covers. Adds stability in the housing.

Re: 12 bolt differential cover
The load screws are only lightly loaded against the caps, not enough to change any of the set-up dimensions or pre-loads. The cover basically acts as a girdle to support the main caps as the pinion tries to push the carrier out the back of the housing. It certainly can't hurt and I expect it is beneficial enough to use them on stuff I do.

Re: 12 bolt differential cover
The instructions do state to torque the load bolts to 10 lb/ft, as more torque can distort the bearings.

I use one liter of Royal Purple 75/90 synthetic.
12 bolt. I use the same stuff in my Jerico DR4. Terry K |
Re: 12 bolt differential cover
I've always stuck with good old Valvoline dinosaur 80w-90.
