Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
My old Max Wedge car would've overheated by the time it got to the lanes from the road course.

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Looking at the google earth view I would be surprised if they could fill the spectator parking lot with fan cars. Why couldn't they cone off part of it to get the classes out of the road course area?
Looks like the guys out there will need twice as much fuel for this event. |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Gonna have to start tuning the race cars for fuel mileage as well!

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Sorry I haven’t posted all day but we have been very busy! We got pulled in and parked on the road course in a pretty good spot. Unloaded and got slides out and chairs out, then tried to go eat lunch at Randy’s Rib Shack in Waldo, but they were closed! So we had some good barbecue at Sonny’s! We got back to the pits and found out that we could move back up just inside where you come in the back gate. So we loaded everything back up and moved. They realized they had allowed for too many spaces for next week and allowed us to move up and stay thru next week. There is still lots of parking on the pavement in the Pro pits, but you have to move out Sunday night and get back in line to repark.
After we got all set back up it was time for a cocktail and then dinner at Cedar River Seafood! So now we are back home and ready for bed! Test and tune is tomorrow so I will try to get some pictures then. Oh if you are coming, you better bring your long underwear and gloves! It is going down to 36 degrees tonight! More later! |

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Isn't this one of the tracks NHRA owns?
Seems like they could make a whole lot more pit space by simply clearing trees. Oh I forgot, that would cost some money.... |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Good morning, we are on our way and should be in by lunch. Actually we started last night and drove part the way before stopping for a rest, I have my 3 year old Piper with me so I thought it might work better that way instead of driving straight through.
No need to be in a big rush it doesn't sound like any good parking is left but I didn't make the trip for that anyway. It is what it is, maybe one day I will try to run Comp so I can get better parking! With the cool temperatures that are forecasted overheating cars shouldn't be an issue anyway. Right now we are stopped for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel so we'll check back later. Looking forward to seeing everyone, its been a long winter reading all these doomsday post on here so I hope everyone will be respectful and not try to turn this Live from into one. |
We are here parked, teched and have already done some catching up with a few people. There was quite a few cars testing but I didn't hang around long. Now its time for a nap!

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Its been a long day of testing, sorry for the lack of reports. Internet has been slow today and I don't have any photos, I will have them tomorrow. I can only report on two cars. Bill Hawk 10.00 in B at 129 and John Gray went a 9.77 at 135 in A. The DA was 400 feet in the morning and it went up to 800 this afternoon.
We start tomorrow at 8am with Super Street followed by Stock. |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Like Ken said the internet has been pretty weak today especially back here where we are parked. I haven't been able to upload any photos. We spent some time this afternoon along with others trying to help Randall Campbell replace a leaf spring that broke on the trip down here while in the trailer.
Only thing of news that I can report is that because of cold temperatures tomorrow's start has already been pushed back till atleast 9am with SST out first. Don't forget that D3 TV is here this weekend so you can tune in and watch live. |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
D3Tv ...for the win !
Good luck to all the racers at the Gators |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Morning all! It is already up to 41 from a low of 33 this morning! Lots of sunshine! Going up to 69 this afternoon!! I don’t believe super street has been called yet. We should all get 2 runs today, then 1 tomorrow then Eliminations.
More updates later. |

I still occasionally think of my 1st Pontiac hero, Truman Fields. Won the '73 US Nats, and set a new nat record, with his '68 RA2 stick Bird. The car won again a few years later, with a different driver. Another trivia fact is that the runner up that year was also Pontiac powered, and it was his 3rd US Nats RU in a row. That may still be a record. http://www.risesales.com/pages/Dragr.../t_fields.html http://www.competitionplus.com/compe...-amateur-video "... Mick Leiferman probably holds the record for Indy frustration? He reached the Stock final three straight years (1975, 1976, 1977) and finished as runner-up all three times. He has never won the U.S. Nationals..." Nowadays, it's tuff to be competitive with a stick. But, it IS lots of fun. :) Adam has said he might try a 350HO engine this season. Lookin forward to seeing how much he can get out of it. |

We are done for the day, and like Patsy said we are going right into first round tomorrow because pending weather on Sunday. The internet is very slow so I only have one set of photos, uploading them is taking a very long time.
Qualifying sheets should be up on DRC later tonight. |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
During SS qualifying Chuck Comella was held back from going down the track ? Not sure why but I swear I see the water box attendant spray water on his quarter panel for about 2 seconds. Go to - 2.20 and decide?? Optical illusion maybe.

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Sorry I've been MIA this weekend but I had a couple issues to deal with plus I have my little girl to deal with also. As Ken mentioned the internet is suspect and I've had trouble uploading pictures also. I'll do better next weekend so I don't get fired. I also need to thank Emily Stott Volkman for all her help with Piper this weekend, my little girl was missing her mama this morning and Emily went into mama mode and everything was OK in a few minutes. First round in the morning and as soon as we find out if anyone comes in tonight a ladder will be out.

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
ight now we have mine-shaft conditions, you know the top qualifier of the bottom half of the sheet is at least .850 under. We have 81 stockers on the sheet and tech is open today so we could have racers enter and be placed at the bottom of the sheet. If five racers enter stock today and bring the field to 86 mine shaft conditions will still met according to NHRA rules. If entry in stock jumps to 87 or above no mine-shaft conditions and all runs will count for "Q" and "E" data.

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
It is a beautiful morning here in Gainesville for first round of Stock eliminator! There is not a ladder yet that I am aware of. They had to wait to see if anyone was coming in this morning. I think at least 1 more car should be here. They will put them at the bottom of the sheet then make out the ladder from there. It is in 40s now, but should be about 50 by the time we run. Juniors are first with a time trial, then Super Street round 1, then stock round 1. Super comp round 1, then super stock q2, then super gas tt2.
The schedule shows everyone getting in 3 rounds today. The weather on Sunday is looking better now. More later. Patsy |

Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Stock and Super Street are done with their first round. Super Stock, Super Comp and Super Gas got there second qualifier and time shot as it was to late and cold last night.
We are supposed to get it all done today. Alcohol is just about to run first round as I type. It has taken me 30 minutes to post, the bandwidth is absolutely horrendous here. Up loading photos are all but impossible during the day. I will try for tonight. |
Re: “Live” from Gainesville 2018
Well, the Boss beat us 1st round by .005. I will try to post ladder with winners circled but as Ken said, internet is super slow! I took pics so I will post them later also!
