Powerdlide id????
I have a powerglide rear housing that is 18" long (steel) with the mount on bottom of the housing. Gear is 1:76 fine spine shaft.
What did this come out of? Bill |
Re: Powerdlide id????
Hey Billy, how are you doing ?
Sorry I can't answer your powerglide question, I am a stick shift guy. |
Re: Powerdlide id????
Assuming the 18" tail housing came on an iron Glide from the '50's, out of a truck or wagon of some sort.
I'm sure some of these guys will know, for sure. A guy in this discussion does mention an 18" tail housing, but doesn't mention it being steel or iron. https://www.hotrodders.com/forum/wha...nglepost3.html |

Re: Powerdlide id????
The aluminum Powerglide was phased in starting in 1962 behind the Chevy 327 engine . So if you have a cast iron tailshaft housing it must be earlier than 1963 .

Re: Powerdlide id????
The issue with Bill's question is that he seems to be describing an aluminum powerglide in ref to a 1.76 gear and fine spline.
Yet, he is talking about a "steel" rear housing. The question does not compute. Is it possible he has a very rare Steeluminum hybrid? |
Re: Powerdlide id????
Someone was breaking rear mounts or tail housings and found a cast one... to help stop it and Bill ended up with it.

Re: Powerdlide id????
it came off an aluminum case powerglide with steel rear housing with casting number gm479868, with fine spine 1;76 GEAR, I think this is from about a 1966 chev pickup. have pictures but wont upload. thank you. bill prince
