97 mustang 3.8

Just a crazy little thought. Has anyone ever looked at a 3.8 combo in 1997 mustang automatic? I believe it will Q/auto at around 3060 with driver. Just looking for thought and something else do do with cold and rain in forcast. Thanks

It's probably decent. Plan on rev-ing it up a little.
I don't know what trans fits it.
It's P-Q-R or T with a convertible.

Hey Mark, The car is a coupe stick right now, but was looking a C4 possibly. This would be a new project for me, but wanted something different for daughter and grand-daughters. Also, not trying to break the bank, 70 yrs. old and probably my last hoorah. You have been around also, what would you suggest for rear gear and tire size? 2.75 first gear unless I can find a 2.92. Thanks for the reply and suggestions Mark. Larry

At 170 HP, it compares well with the 3.8 Firebirds that are at 185 and 206. A little less compression and smaller TB. It should be a fun ride.

I'll do some checking on the gear.
Off hand, I'd say 6500 shift and 7000 in the lights. I'd guess that the manifold and t.b. is designed to make torque to 6 grand anyway.
Once you figure the finish line rpm, then figure what the mph would be at a second under, then figure what gear and tire size it takes to get it there.

PS, I like the stick idea.

Billy, thanks for the reply, I only have about 2 nickles left to try, and if it doesn't work I'll let her go local track and let everyone play chase. Ha-Ha

Mark, the reason for the C4, I have one and a fresh unbroken 8" conv. to redo and just need a 2.92 or 2.75. If I drive some I can probably fit in R/SA. Car has been our street family back-up for years. I have an 8.8 and a 9" rear housing also.

Use the 8.8.

This has been on my list of cars to build for years. Now I am too old to build any more.
I had one of these engines apart and it looked like a race engine inside.

Just a question on this build idea. What about trying a helical gear diff. such as the Eaton Detroit Tru-Track for the Ford 7.5. This unit is suppose to be good for 300 h.p and ell. the spider gears , the weak link on the 7.5. Also will all C.4s bolt on to the 3.8 or is there a adaptor? Going back to the 7.5. i'm just thinking about saving as much weight as possible, as the car in R/SA would be about 3200 Lbs. Just thinking out loud. Jimmy
