New tire selection

Anyone have any experience with the Hoosier
18240 31.0/14.0-15 C 14.0" 31.2" 98.0" 12-14" 12" 16.5" D05

I'm needing to replace some old, worn out 1902 Goodyears that had a 96.25 rollout.(Measured at race pressure) I'm thinking I need a little more rollout & this Hoosier tire has approx 2". One of my concerns is the real soft compound. Will it work on hot tracks? The other is the growth. The 1902 is a stiff sidewall and I'm not sure if it was a high, a normal or low growth tire. I've also been looking at the 12.2/31.25-15W PHOENIX Price difference is not a consideration .

Application is a 3175 lb Super Stock Modified 3 speed auto with approx 660 hp and is aggressively geared.

Adger,,,probably not much help here as your application is larger than mine, but I've had good luck with my Phoenix slicks, but they are 10.5x29.5x15s. I'm transbraking a 3400lb(with me in it) Nova, with aprox 625 hp,, certainly not geared like you, as I took some out over the winter and now run 4:30s in my Dana 60. Good luck whichever you choose.

Thanks, Danny. I guess my worst fear is that the Hoosier's very soft compound will gum up and not work well on our hot tracks in the summer months. I would do a radial, but sizes seem a little restrictive.(most brands) My wheel well will only take so big. I might even be on the limits with that 98" roll out tire.
It is hard to believe after so many views you are the only one with a comment. Thanks, Hope you & your family are doing well...

Yes, RJ. You know I've been out of the racing scene because I am taking care of Dad.
Well, the last 7 years we have done the best we can and are sliding down the slope with his health. We have come to realize his condition is getting worse and he/we will need professional around the clock care, soon. That will give me free time to get my stuff out of mothballs & I might make a few races. Right now It's also giving me something to think about and make some plans. So, Watch out "Old Buddy" I may see you at the track.

Several of us guys in Division 3 run that compound in our bracket set-ups. They are real rock collecters in the heat, but they hook. No complaints with them. We have never had a balling up issue. . Can't go wrong with those 12.2 w's Phoenix either. That's a killer tire, but they leak.

Hey Adger, I'm sorry to hear of your father's declining health.

To your question on the Hoosier 18240; I acquired a roller '65 Malibu SS last week that has 14X31 Hoosier's(DO5compound) on it. I don't see any tire # on it like GY does. But, near as I can tell, Hoosier only makes one 14X31. These are new slicks with only a handful of runs on them. I just checked rollout on them and with 15 pounds of air they measured 97.5 ". I'm hoping to try them out in two weeks doing minimal burnouts. I'll try to remember to post some results if it will help you.

Thanks for the kind words, Adger,,, I'm now 13 chemo treatments into this fight myself and still feeling fine,, hoping to get behind the wheel soon,, can only watch my son run my car for so long, know what I mean?
So sorry to hear about your father's health,, not much we can say, but hes in our prayers. I hope the care he gets will keep him comfortable for as long as he needs it. Take care, sir.
