Pin On Hood Fasteners

SS/CS allows fiberglass lift off hoods with scoop limits of 11 inches above the hood surface. Thinking of adding a glass hood with a Thunderbolt blister to my Mustang. Any thoughts on keeping it on with as little hassle as possible in getting it off?

Asking here because more lift off and tilt up glass users in Comp.

Put tabs on all around the engine compartment and fasten hood to the tabs with spring loaded flush mount Dzus fasteners . Looks nice smooth appearance and no fumbling for or lost fasteners. Fed 387

Don’t know if this will help you, check out quiklatch.com pretty slick little deal though.

Thanks, guys. I'll check both out. The Dzus fasteners seem to have the lead price wise.

Think some fasteners are not accepted by NHRA. Wonder about two large hood pin styles, similar to the Quik- Latch style?

I can't find restrictions on fasteners in the 2017 rule book but that dosen't mean they don't exist...

I'm thinking 8 fasteners. Three on each side and two across the front. Cost will determine the exact style. A flat hood and T Bolt blister will run me around $550.

Another option would be to use 1”x1” aluminum angle. Run it through a Shrinker / stretcher so it conforms to the fender contours. Fabricate two brackets for the front, and add fasteners of your choice.

Dale,
Do you have aluminum or cast iron cylinder heads?
SS/CS is a cast iron cylinder head class on;y; no aluminum.

Cast. Iron. In-Line. N351 with a Ford part number. Not on any list but they are on the NHRA 1/8 mile record holder over in D3. Perno is the guy's name. I also talked to Mike Delahanty about these heads and he had no concerns. I'll find out. They are so heavy compared to my old AFR heads that I have had to use my engine hoist to get them in and out.

The flat glass hood might hood might not work. Not easy to find and quality is suspect. Lots of good 3 1/2 inch cowels so I'll probably keep light springs and hinges with extra pins and no latch.

A lift off hood sucks in Super Stock from the standpoint of having to remove it for fuel check. You are down there by yourself, if it's windy you don't want it sitting up on the roof unattended. Mine won't sit on the roof so I have to find a spot in the grass to set it. Make the hood hinged it at all possible.

Re: Pin On Hood Fasteners

I wound up ordering a better quality cowl hood from California Mustang. Truck freight up to Washington will be a bit better than a flat hood from Florida. It's reinforced for a hinge with light springs so it will be more serviceable. Still going to have Dzuts style fasteners instead of a latch. One on each side and two on the front.

Thanks for all the input.
