AHRA index racing
How does this new AHRA deal work? The flyer says they are running it at the Winternationals. Are they like a circuit that rented some time from NHRA? Sounds really interesting.

Re: AHRA index racing
The website www.ahraonline contains more info-apparently will award $10000 to SG winner if he or she has no electronics.

If you have an automatic you win 5k, with a manual transmission you win 10K. Check it out

Re: AHRA index racing
It would be real interesting to see if any cars actually fit into the requirements. Most of not all the cars have stops for the most part, I wonder if some will switch to a plate slide under the carb so they can try to get the cash.

Non clutchless transmission, no liberty or Lenco,

Re: AHRA index racing
I'm surprised NHRA will have the time for another eliminator ? Could it be that they want to see how the fans in the stands will react to the index type of racing without the "START/STOP/START" type that S/C, S/G. and S/ST has turned into with the over sized expensive fast MPH engines being used today ????

Re: AHRA index racing
I can't see that there will be a lot of cars, if any, signing up for this. It's hard enough to win a Super class race with all of the electronics. I can't imagine that there are 10 cars in the country that match all the requirements.

Re: AHRA index racing
It is true that .90 racing is boring to most all spectators, but that is because they really don't understand how the game is played. It is far from boring to the drivers that participate in the .90 classes. Besides, most spectators are not at a National Event to watch the .90 classes.

Re: AHRA index racing
[QUOTE=X-TECH MAN;555206]To bad as the electronic and air operated throttle stops have killed the .90 classes for the spectator. Just take a look in the stands when they run today. In the beginning its was a bolt stop or adjustment with weight. The start and bog then start again is boring as hell ![/Q
What do you think would happen if the electronics were banned? Dan |

Have you ever competed in the throttle stop classes? If not don't knock it until you try it. 160+ mph in a roadster is much more fun for me than 110 MPH was in my stocker and it was a stick car. I ran stock for years in the 60's and early 70's. I have just as much or more fun now running a SG car as I did the stock car back when. Being retired it is also less work to run the SG car and to me it is about fun not how much work it takes to be competitive. I would not have retired if I wanted to work the hours it takes to be competitive in stock and super stock. It is all about different strokes for different folks. I have other interests other than drag racing also. Please don't knock any of the classes or we may just not have any classes to run in the future. Be a part of the solution not part of the problem by knocking a class of racers. Just My 2 Cents Rick Cates Canyon, TX SG 5887 |

Re: AHRA index racingf
So,. Is this AHRA bounty only listed for the west coast? I went to there web site, and really could not find info on this. I don't believe I am eligible, since I have a Lenco. But i might call tomorrow and ask. I can't believe they are going to pay 10k, really! There has to be a issue where no one is eligible

Re: AHRA index racing
Found the flyer, manual clutch engagement for every gear, that leaves me out!

Re: AHRA index racing
I believe a little compromise on electronics would make the AHRA version a lot more palatable for all. Lack of spectators seems to be the big problem, and spectators would have no idea if there were a delay box or rpm shifter on board. We turned a 9.50 car into a deadly 10.00 index car with a 3000 launch chip, altering shift points and a bolt under the loud pedal. Class was a blast and extremely competitive. So keep most of the aftermarket electronics(and manufacturers), run heads up that makes more sense to the casual fan, and the only ones hurt are the throttle stop manufacturers. I would gladly put my stop in the trash can if everyone else did.
And another aside, Dragway 42 is running an 8 race index series with no stops or delay boxes. A little more challenging but level playing field for all. May be the way of the future to try and put some fans back into the stands. |

I personally don't give a rip about spectators when I'm competing, but I'd lay much of the blame for spectator behavior on how the national events are marketed. All nitro, and every ticket's a pit pass so you can watch the guys rebuild them between runs! So, that's what the people watch. |
