With less than 24 hrs notice we had 8 of our family and friends show up and help, support and enjoy our initial day out racing this car. Pretty awesome and special to say the least. It was a perfect 65 degree late fall day. It was a day I will NEVER forget. It was my 1st day ever driving a race car or any car for that matter, down a drag strip. I have ripped off 11.0's on multiple harleys and customs, but no cars until that day. :):D:cool:http://classracer.com/classforum/ima...ons/icon11.gifhttp://classracer.com/classforum/images/icons/icon4.gifhttp://classracer.com/classforum/ima...ons/icon14.gif

Made 7 total passes with the car. Signed up for Pro and Test N Tune. Best et was 11.97 @110 with our 40 yr old stock eliminator motor. It is the same basic stock flat top piston, stock rod motor Jim Endicott raced to the I/S record in 1973/74. But with a GM 140 Cam, 850 holley and as cast Turbo 292 heads. As a newbie driver I had the usual flubs, no smoke burnout, asleep for all 4 of my time trial runs, etc. But when it came time to run 1st round, my daughter put her prized Bunny into the passenger seat and said that it was for good luck. Well, it worked.

.009 1st rd light and the WIN!!!!

-.021 2nd rd red light, but still consistent. Then a .040" time trial light to round out the day. I couldn't have been happier. Over winter we are going to update the driveshaft, starter and trans cooler lines. We need to fix the always on parking lights and build a 13.5:1 thumper of a small block to keep going bracket racing. I just need the seat time. I plan to run the wheels off of this car next year around Michigan and maybe one trip to Norwalk for their no-box Bonanza in June.

Thanks to everyone on hear for all of the support, knowledge and advice.

Thanks Rich, I did have a blast. I can't wait until the spring. With the new motor we should be hanging the hoops and mid to low 10's.

Life got in the way in the past year and half, but we finally got the car out again last weekend at Milan for the sunday bracket program. The combo since we finished the car was unchanged. We ran 12.23-12.31 over the 4 runs. My lights got better too, .197 off the trailer, then .022, .077 and -.009. Broke out first round and buyback redlight 2nd round. I am getting more comfortable behind the wheel and just need more seat time. We are planning on hitting the no-box race at US131 Aug 4-5 for our next outing.

Funny coincidence, Mike Delahanty was right behind in us in the lanes for round 1. Heck of a nice guy. I didn't know he and my Dad (Terry Friar) have known each other since the 70's.

I am from west michigan and would love to see your car run at the strip. Do you plan on racing 1/8 mile at the newly reopened Onondaga Dragway south of Lansing?
They are just racing test and tune right now but plan on expanding in the spring of 2018.

I need a reason to see the track and talk to the owner about sponsoring an 8 second flat
heads-up class. That is roughly mid-12's in the quarter mile. Call my cell phone 231-740-5534 when you are going to race your car again. Good job on that project!

Hey Fred. Thanks for the kind words. I will hit you up next time we are over on your side of the state. No plans as of yet to run at Onandaga. We are building a new motor that should put us in the 10's in the 1/4. #8 cylinder in the old motor was going away this past summer. Current plans for this summer are to run Open Comp at the first Friday of the month at Milan (May-Oct) US131 or Mid Michigan for 'Pro' bracket stuff, and maybe the No-Box Bonanza at Norwalk first weekend in June.
