Suspension set up Chevelle
I don't know if weight play a big roll in my cars performance (About 3000# 1970 Chevelle) but I'm trying to get as much info as I can. I change out my suspension and put strange double adjustable coil over shocks and anti roll bar in the back. In the front I have QA-1 double adjustable coil over shocks. I have a friend that has four corner scales that I can use, but I am looking for some help. From what I read it looks like it should be a 50% weight left to right and front to rear weight. I should have my car into the high 9 and bracket racing in the 10.20 index class. I would appreciate any help

Re: Suspension set up Chevelle
Front suspension has got to be right before worrying about rear suspension. What is it besides the QA-1s?
A Chevelle at 3000 lbs., is pretty cut up so 50/50 should be doable. That said, my 3880 lb. Chevelle was 59% front/41% rear and ran in the 9's launching wheels up every pass. http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/o...n6-15-08-1.jpg What is the rear suspension is in it now? Footbrake or transbrake launching? Some preload on the right rear is required, which will put more weight on the left front. Make all adjustements with you in the seat. |
Re: Suspension set up Chevelle
Front is chrome molly tubular control arms, wilwood drag brakes w/vented rotors and double adjustable coil over shocks. Rear is strange coil over double adjustable shocks with a anti roll control. It has a 400 trans with a trans break. I think about 3000# maybe 3200#. wont know till I weigh it. It also is a big block with solid roller cam.

Re: Suspension set up Chevelle
Has stiction been eliminated in the front A Arms? How much travel do you have? Are the springs the correct rate for the weight over/on the front tires? Is the front end sitting at the correct ride height static?

Re: Suspension set up Chevelle
Ok I just got the scales and it is 2900# and 3100# with driver. The corner weight with driver are LF 897# RF 827# LR 688# RR 688# .That is 55% up front and 45% in the rear. As for stiction I have new control arms and properly lubricated. I had a local chassis builder order the springs and I think they are the proper ones. I am still researching the way to set proper ride height.

Re: Suspension set up Chevelle
Call Alf Wiebe in Vancouver B.C. he is the man on coil spring suspension. There's a trick to them cars....and he knows it. I use his set up on my 84 Camaro stocker (with coil springs) and it works. Hope this helps.

Does anybody know if Alf Wiebe still produces his suspension setups?
