Oil bypass, do you block it?
On a SBC the oil bypass is in the oil filter adapter, I'm not sure on other motors. Do you block it to avoid oil bypassing the filter? I've read info arguing both ways.

I block mine. You must run an oil filter capable of handling the increased flow through it. I use the K&N HP3002.

Re: Oil bypass, do you block it?
I have blocked a couple for customers that wanted them that way but like Dan said you absolutely must run a good racing type filter and be willing to warm the engine up some before getting your foot in it.
I have also seen two nice engines ruined because the owners used a cheap filter that came apart and blocked the oil passage going into the block :( |
Re: Oil bypass, do you block it?
I've blocked them in the past and used Wix filters, both standard and racing. I've never had any problems but it does make sense that the oil can't pass through the filter fast enough especially on launch. Cold oil and high viscosity would also slow the flow through the filter with no bypass.

Re: Oil bypass, do you block it?
I have block all of mine and use 1061 NAPA gold as it has a 19 micron rating VS the filters which have a 51 Micron rating.
No issues to date. |
