burnout and metric 200
Is doing your burnout in second gear only with a metric 200 bad for the trans? Should you always shift to high gear or do high gear only? Thanks

Re: burnout and metric 200
I don't think it hurts to do it in 2nd. However, I always start off in low and shift through to high gear, so that I don't spin the engine up to get tire speed.

Alan is giving you good advice ; Jack Sepanek who builds/repairs a ton of 200's recommends the same .

Re: burnout and metric 200
If you have enough power, a high gear only burnout is the best and safest for a 200. The low gear burnout can beat up the low gear sprag.

I have had good results going from 2nd to third (on good advice).

2nd to 3rd, almost immediately. Been working flawlessly for 5 yrs, thanks to Paul Forte.

Re: burnout and metric 200
Hi Dave the guys at A-1 said to start in 2ND and shift into 3rd, I have an auto 1-2 shift in mine. I however start in 2nd and just leave it ,get to desired rpm and when it drops slightly roll out under same throttle position till the tires grab. voila! no problems and have been doing the same basic thing for 20 years with no issue.

My E Shift does this for me. Low, second, high

My Buddy Mike had a Billy Lynn 200 in his Monte Carlo Billy told him 2nd gear burnout only? I have a Kenny Shawver 350th he told me to go from 1st to 3rd he said DO NOT burn in 2nd!

Re: burnout and metric 200
I wonder what is wrong with 2nd gear burn outs with the T350? I've been doing 2nd to 3rd for years now. I thought about everybody did.

Re: burnout and metric 200
I'm stick guy but owned one of them other trans one time, I thought all GM 3 spd. were supposed to use 2&high on burnout, I was told when you go from 1-2 intermediate drum had to swap directions and was hard on intermediate sprag, and was told not shift from high to neutral on rev pattern during shutdown for same reason, said no matter had fast you did it still would try to stop intermediate drum and damage sprag.
When I was told that I started doing High gear burnouts suited me better was almost like stick burnout then.

Re: burnout and metric 200
I found out the hard way about putting a T350 in neutral at the finish line. Carl Rossler explained it to me. I ordered one of his Clean Neutral T350s and shifter after that. First one was his also. Works great.
