Stock hood configuration clarification

Stock eliminator.........I'm sure the hood has to match the year model but what if a certain year model have a hood for the SB version and a cowl type version for the BB such as some corvettes.......can the BB hood be used on a SB class car ??? for instance SB stock hood vs. L88 BB hood ???? What about aftermarket hoods that have a slight raised design that matches neither sb or bb one exactly ????

As stated the hood has to be correct for the engine.I know the 69 Camaro's were having issues with hoods. Also if the hood came with a rear cowl seal (rubber) it has to be there. gsa612

Re: Stock hood configuration clarification

For many years, it seemed like everybody racing a '69 Camaro had a ZL2 cowl-induction hood on it. Competitors must have complained that only a handful of Camaro models were actually available with the hood, and they were right.

The cowl hood was an option on SS and Z28 models in 1969 but was included on all COPOs (including L72 and ZL1 cars) and Pace Cars.

The ZL2 option included a solenoid and flapper in the hood. The wiring for the solenoid was routed through a special hole in firewall above the fuseblock. Only 10,026 cars received cowl hoods in 69 and about half of those went to COPOs and Pace Cars, meaning there were only 5,000 Z28s and SSs (out of about 20,000 Z28s and 30,000 non-Pace Car SSs) that received the cowl hood.

Does anyone here run a 70 1/2 Camaro 402/375 or a 71 402/300 hp combo in SS.If so does the hood close with an alum.intake and spacer? without raising the rear of the hood with the hinges?. gsa612

Engine useage dictates hood configuration on 69 Camaro. Walking staging lanes looking at hoods on some Chryslr/ Ford, who knows?

How about a 67 camaro with a 350 or a 396? Do you have to have the ss hood with the ornaments? Or a big block nova does it need the ss hood also?

Re: Stock hood configuration clarification

Just curious if the "hood must match engine used" gets thrown out the window if the car runs in a S/S GT class. Like if a guy built, say a 69 Plymouth Road Runner with a 1980 318 Thermoquad combo, could he use the 69 Road Runner scooped, fiberglass lift off hood that came on the 3 x 2 barrel models? Or say a 1972 454 360HP engine in a 69 Corvette, would he be allowed to use the L88 hood? Could be interesting if somebody put together a 68 Hemi Dart or Barracuda body package together with a MoPar small or big block Wedge as a GT combo.

Couple of guys have done that. The two that come to mind easiest for me are Eric Bell and Darren Smith running 440-6’s in a Barracuda and Dart, respectively. Both ran with fiberglass hoods and scoops.
