Re: New to dragsters
The car would fit into Super Comp or brackets, probably not a good choice for Comp or TD. It's more like how you fit the cage and how well it matches the rest of the chassis. The seat lay back angle is also a big factor. Take extra time and look for chassis fatigue and cracks especially in the frontend area. Do not buy if the chassis does not have a NHRA chassis certification tag.

Re: New to dragsters
Hacksaw gave you some good advise. Must have a current tag!
You need to be comfortable in the seating position. Need to see how you reach the pedals, chute release, and shifter. Find out who built the car. I have had three dragsters and quite familair with them. Have any questions just fire away. Good Luck Jimmy |
Re: New to dragsters
adjustable pedals is a good option to have if you want to change drivers a soft tail car would be a better option hardtails can bounce around alot in the shutdown area

Re: New to dragsters
Is the shutdown area of you local track smooth, like some of the other folks stated the hardtail can get unstable on tracks that are not smooth. Sounds like you have a fun plan, put a thead in the build section on this site.
Like Hacksaw said try to find out as much as you can on history of the car before you purchase it, contact previous owners if you can. |
Re: New to dragsters
What class do you plan to run? What ET do you plan to run? These are big factors as to
what type of dragster to run. Dan |
Re: New to dragsters
If you're planning to run a dragster in Comp, my choice would be a hard tail, but at least 240 to 250 long for a small block, and 265 to 270 for a big block.. you could use a 225 for a 4 cylinder class, but even a 6 cylinder class needs to be at least 235..
You can run the car you're describing in Super Comp, or Brackets, but be sure it came from a reputable builder, has a current NHRA cert sticker, and actually fits you.. if it doesn't have these things, and you choose to buy it anyway, you will be spending a lot of money to make it fit, and make it legal.. If you have a friend that knows NHRA rules, and chassis stuff, BRING HIM!! |
Re: New to dragsters
If you dont have a -5 jacket, borrow one and take your helmet. Make sure you are comfy in before handing over that cash. Redoing a cage, isnt exactly cheap.
