Can You Help Me Find This?
 

A 58 tooth timing wet belt-in-oil, 3/4" wide. I believe it came off a SVO Mustang in the 80s? Been trying to see who made them for Ford and if I can find some anywhere. Been trying to contact Gates to see if they made them back in the day but no response yet. Googling these numbers hasn't gotten me anywhere. Thanks in advance.

I doubt that this has anything to do with a SVO Mustang as they were 2300's with a dry cam drive belt. The is an old belt from a belt drive timing gear set that Ford Motorsport sold for the 289-302-351W that ran in oil. The belt part number for it is M-6268-T302 as seen on the belt. I do not remember the number for the complete belt drive kit, just the belt itself. I do not know of anyone who used one so I do not know how reliable they were.

According to Ford I did a search and that belt is obsolete from them. Here is the old part number if that helps you: E5ZZ-6268-A
The number you have on the belt is an engineering number.

The old Ford number interchanges to a Dayco #95014 Check with a local jobber or Advance Auto carries Dayco products

Bobby, At the risk of dating myself...I found one of my old SVO catalogs.”The camshaft drive system “ as it was called was PN M-6268-U302. The listed part number for the replacement belt was M-6268-S351.
I talked to Alex Denysenko about this setup at one time. He said almost nobody used it. Alex thought the belt was a weak spot being that it ran in oil.I would think it’d help harmonics and possibly free up some parasitic horsepower, but so would a jesel belt drive. Hope this helps.

Do a little research on BIO ( belt in oil)belts -used by many manufacturers both in European and Domestic engines --- how well it will work in a hi rpm application I don't know further research would be necessary

I have one of the timing belt setups.
Sometime ago I did the research for the replacement belt since the numbering system, as it is for bearings and seals, is an SAE specification.
There are industrial belts that will work as a replacement. Also, there are belts designed under the numbering system to work immersed in hot oil.

Thank you all for your help that is why I love this site. So it turns out it was definitely not from the 2300 SVO which is a much longer and dry belt. But rather this was a “competition” upgrade from chain to belt. The part number M-6268-T302 is the belt for the M-6268-U302 kit. Obsolete indeed but would be nice to know if Dayco or Gates could still crank one out. Ran it on my super stocker for 9 years believe it or not.
