Re: URGENT- Message for Frank Ferrucci
Thank you for everyone who tried to help me including Nancy Gaj, Bill Baylis, Frank Bialas, Jeff Roell, Jim Isherwood, Steve Wann, and others. We had problems on the way down to VA and thought it was water in the diesel. We drained the water and it ran well for another 600 miles. On the way back home, it started acting up in NJ. After draining the water a couple of times, we changed the fuel filter, but it didn't help. It turned out to be the plastic fuel tank delaminating and plugging the pickup screen.

If you don't mind me asking, what make & year?
Thanks |
Re: URGENT- Message for Frank Ferrucci
No, I don't mind at all. It's a 1999 Ford E-350 Clubwagon (window van with interior), 7.3 PowerStroke. It has 156,000 miles on it and gets 10-11 mpg towing, so that's about two tractor-trailer loads of diesel that have been through the tank. I guess it's due!

Re: URGENT- Message for Frank Ferrucci
Did it just loose power at times? I have a 1997 F350 7.3 dually crew with this issue and I haven't been able narrow down where the problem is yet.
Thanks |
Re: URGENT- Message for Frank Ferrucci
Ford SERVICE BULLETIN #19728 they had a problem with F350-450-550 with the Fuel tanks delaminating after about 100,000 miles--- not sure if they will cover any repairs but in 2010 they knew they had problems--FED 387

Re: URGENT- Message for Frank Ferrucci
not sure if that is a valid # TSB but ford definitely had problems and many have replaced the METAL fuel tank with a PLASTIC tank that has eliminated the situation

Dave,
I had never had a problem with it before, although I thought it was a bit down on power. For this trip, we had been close to 300 miles, and just came out of stop-and-go traffic, when we were climbing a small grade, getting back up to speed and it wouldn't go over 60 mph or shift into high gear. It had a high frequency shake to it. After we drained the water, we ran close to 500 miles before I thought I could just detect a small shake on the longer hills. We then ran over 50 miles before it started acting up strongly again. This time, it wouldn't go away, although after we towed the van home, with the front end raised up on a fairly steep angle, and no suction on the pickup, it ran like a top. I suspect that some of the debris was shaken out of the pickup on the trip. |

Posted is a link to a article that might help you find a solution to your issue and gives some info on different prices of manufactures and options. Thank you for sharing your problem as I'm a owner of a Ford Diesel myself . Bob |
