Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
I wonder if "Heavy" was ever challenged to a street race by "Big Willie" or vice versa?

Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
Great Story!!
Carmen Rotonda is 84 years old and the other day I received a phone call from his grandson who is about 62 He asked me if I remembered the "Brooklyn Heavy car" and when I did he told me the car is sitting in his garage at his home. Many great stories about the old Rontonda's speed shop in Monclair, N.J. from back in the 60's and 70's He later purchased Pete Van Iderstines Speed Center in Hanover, N.J. I had forgotten that at one point Camen had driven the car. Jim Hill http://www.nostalgicracingdecals.com |

Which Brooklyn Heavy car are you talking about? As far as I know, both his Challenger and Duster wound up "on the other side of the pond." http://105.imagebam.com/download/PUE...n_heavy-02.jpg http://105.imagebam.com/download/tYf...ndon_heavy.jpg More info here: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/in...?topic=19295.0 Perhaps the 1972 Chevrolet Vega is the car in Carmen's garage? I believe this was Grumpy's first Pro Stock Vega but don't quote me on that. Pete |

How was this car allowed to race with these obviously radiused ones? Pete |
Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
Carmen Rotonda's Brooklyn Heavy-sponsored Vega.

Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
I will give Carmens grandson a call this week and get some more information about the car.
I believe that when he told me about the "Brooklyn Heavy"car he also said it was the one with the Hemi in it. When he said it I did not think to ask him which car it was. His mother was Carmens daughter. Jim Hill |

Could it be this car? I have a photo (somewhere) of this Duster painted up in Heavy's colors. http://114.imagebam.com/download/Hb1...hop_duster.jpg Pete |

Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
Wondering if any of you know if the Brooklyn Heavy Challenger raced in 1970 was beige with a tan interior. I have a ‘70 Hemi Challenger that was raced in the ‘70s. Rear wheel wells were opened up.

Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
Anybody have contact info for either Rotonda or Boyd relatives? I’m trying to research the race history of a 1970 Hemi Challenger

Re: Rufus "Brooklyn Heavy" Boyd
Carmen didn't have a daughter only one son. The speed shop was in Bloomfield, NJ. Carmen rolled the Vega on a track down south, sold the car and stopped racing shortly after that. He lives in a retirement community in south Jersey now.

Heavy's Challenger was the Billy the Kid Stepp car. Heavy bought it directly from Stepp.

Can someone verify if this White 69 Camaro is the same as the orange 69 Brooklyn Wild Pumpkin?
