GM Tecs. CORVETTE OIL PUMP dry sump??

My friend took is CORVETTE in for an oil change
On Monday the local GM Chevrolet dealer was changing the oil on his2006 Z06.
They called me to tell him that they had a problem.
They proceed to tell me the "tech" that changed the oil was not familiar with the car and the dry sump system.
Dealer seems to think the tech added too much oil and not in the right place.
Dealer was a little vague as to what exactly the tech did.
The details as to what happened after the "oil change" is as follows.
The car is started and backed out of the bay, then put in first gear to drive away and BOOM.
The car was pushed back to the lift to discover the engine block has a 6" crack on the side and oil leaking out.

The car has 7500 miles on it has never been driven in the rain and very near perfect.
He had planned on keeping this car for along time.

Any GM tecs. here who could answer what might have happened
Thanks!!

A pal of mine has the same car. His has two drain plugs...the one by the filter drains the oil from the pan. The one in front drains the holding tank/reservoir. You fill the new oil into the dry sump reservoir not into the valve cover. I know his holds right at 8 quarts.

The rear pan plug will only drain out around a quart. It's possible that's all that was drained, then 8 qts of new oil was added. Not hard to see how it could hydraulic, especially if the oil was added through the valve cover. Nothing would seem wrong until you started it.

Let us know what you find out. -Al

The tech poured the oil into the valve cover and not the oil tank. My friend that works at a dealership here in Colorado had a Grand Sport that a lube shop did the same thing and kill the engine!

That motor is done, he better get a lawyer if they won't put a new LS7 in.

Man that sucks!:(
