SS/CS accepted heads
If I'm reading the rulebook right any head run in SS/CS must be NHRA accepted. The list of approved heads on nhraracer.com doesn't include any Ford heads for SS/CS. What am I missing?
"All heads must be NHRA-accepted, two valves per cylinder, except in classes DS, ES, FS, and GS, four valves per cylinder permitted." |
Re: SS/CS accepted heads
As a Ford competitor, you can run any Ford manufactured factory cast iron heads. They must be accepted if they are an aftermarket casting (Dart, Brodix, etc...).

Thanks Mike, I always thought that was the case, but the wording above (2017 rulebook) threw me off.

Re: SS/CS accepted heads
Ford makes a head that fits the SS/CS spec of "Inline iron" called the N351. It is primarily for short track circle track racing. I did a lot of digging on this head and found it on the 1/8 mile record holding Mustang of Venice Perno.
It has a Ford part number, M-6049 N351, so it's not technically "aftermarket". Got mine from Speedway Motors. Require offset rockers and special headers. links: http://dragracecanada.com/ontario-ford-aficionado/ . |

Here's some pics of N heads on a BOSS302 block in my 68 coupe. It's a work in progress running in Pro at the moment. I just rebuilt the front suspension and will get it out for competition this weekend.

Re: SS/CS accepted heads
Ford Performance has discontinued the N351 head and Speedway seems to be the only source of new ones. They must have purchased a bunch of them.
