Lug Nuts

I recently purchased Weld Racing lug nuts and washers for my new Bogart Drag-on Star III's. The washers deformed badly upon tightening and of course marked the wheels a little. I have a few different types of lug nuts around from old wheels and all the washers are crap. Are there some good lugs out there or are the 5/8 drive studs the only answer.

I'm really not killing these things with torque.. the washers are just soft.

Thanks for your input.
Gary

Gary,

I have "worried" over this issue for years. After trying a number of brands and styles of lug nuts and washers the result was always been as you described. And as you described, over tightening is not the problem. I have tried several lubrication methods, grease, never-seize, even cam lube. Regardless, the washers deform and eventually mar the wheels plus hang up on the nut. If someone provides an oversize, hard washer I do not know about it.

The only satisfactory solution I have found is 5/8" studs with aluminum spacers and flat flange nuts. Once you go that route you will be happy with the result.

What Alan is showing is the answer. We have them and love them. Larry Hodge keeps them in stock for different shank lengths. Give him a call.
