Cracked Block

Cracked 454 block from water jacket running toward lifter valley. Repairable? If so, would it be worth the expense? It's a 98 from a 3500 HD dually. If it matters, it's an L29 option. I'm under the impression the heads flow very good and would be good to keep. Hopefully the picture shows a good image of the damage.

I have repaired a lot of cracked blocks in the lifter galleys but have never seen one crank in that area. Having two head bolts holes close by makes for a high stress area. That one is a tough call.

I have always used the Lock-N-Stitch method with real good results. Welding the crack once the weld cools it will just crack again.

Jeff Taylor has several 454's in house and my guess you could get a good block, that has been checked, prepped, and ready to go.

Thanks for the response guys. Been away from the computer for a while working.
This is one I'm debating on having repaired for a future build, if it's worth repairing. If not worth the repair, guess we'll see how much the scrap man says it's worth..LOL. Heads are in great shape, recently back from getting spruced up at machine shop. Had around 140,000 miles on it when we pulled it.

As far as I know, it's never been bored, I'm pretty sure it's original to the truck. Ran great, aside from occasional white puff from exhaust. pulled heads to check for blown head gasket and found the crack.
