Sacramento Raceway

Sacramento Raceway has issued a statement on Instagram that they have a potential buyer lined up for the land SRP owns and operates. The sale is by no means official yet and further statements will be made as things progress. The current timeline for the sale is September 2023. They intend on finishing the 2023 racing season either way. If sold there would be no racing at SRP in 2024. Further comments by SRP said the County had been making it very difficult to operate for several years and they feel they have basically run out of options. However, as they did note the fight is not over until its over.

Its getting very hard to be a drag racer in northern California. With Sonoma Divisional gone as well as Fontana and Phoenix closing, I wish the Division Director could make a statement on the future of drag racing in Division 7.

they do not care.

Re: Sacramento Raceway

Some way, somehow, we need the Sonoma LODRS back. I think with some of the recent improvements made, Redding should be considered for an LODRS, too.

Otherwise we might as well just schedule Vegas 4x and hope we can hang on to the double at Famoso (Bakersfield).

Yay, California. As it is now I’ll be 3 hours away from the nearest place I can test once Sacramento closes its doors for good.

So frustrating to see this, was only a matter of time and hats off to the family for holding on this long. We have very few options left. Sad to see what has become of this state, John

Almost everyone on CA is in the same bucket. Either the NHRA will have to solve this problem or we we will. it maybe the only wat to rave is forming our own sportsman group

Re: Sacramento Raceway

A division race at Sonoma and Pomona would really move things in a positive direction. We can dream of great things I suppose. Much respect if the new Division Director could pull that off.

Thanks for posting Darren.
Hope you don’t mind if I add..

Thanks to Sacramento for taking up the slack in sportsman class and bracket racing.
Just for info-Fallon had a huge storm wipe out facilities and they are asking for help.
Loosing Sacramento is like strike three! Most of us here have fond memories of Sacramento , Fremont and Sears Point DRAG racing.
Redding has had a management shakeup I’m told so let’s see what happens there.

Correction/ My mistake , Sonoma had One Mask race during covid….
A special Thanks to local racers and businesses that have supported a small bracket program for the racers here.
Where will the local up and coming JR drag racers , high school kids and gear heads go??
Not all these kids are into circle and road racing. They need an avenue!
One of the nicest tracks on the West Coast and centrally located does not have a sportsman drag race program. Why?

Hi John! I was told it’s on Facebook ( I’m not on there) and that a storm had done some damage and they needed help. Maybe someone here can look?

Re: Sacramento Raceway

I've got a neat big photo of Tony Janes driving my Chevelle wagon and me next to him in my Chevelle hardtop at Pomona leaving the line together during a time only that was held in August one year at a points race held at Pomona. There is adequate time allowed there to have a double points race, definitely that should be considered. We need it now as much as ever. The epidemic of race track closures not only out here but nationwide, with Atlanta,Houston,Phoenix,Englishtown, and now Bandimere should be real reason for concern. Oh,yes, add Fontana to the mix as well. A twofer at Bakersfield,Pomona,Vegas and whatever we could get away with at Sonoma would go a long way to placate the divisional needs, and it might motivate a few of us to participate some more and keep doing this for a while longer.

That's not the only major problem this state has.

I'd certainly support a race (especially a double) at Pomona. Hopefully not in August! lol.

Admittedly, I haven't been around as long as some of you guys, but at 40, I don't recall ever going to a divisional held at that track. Won't be holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

Your Papa won the divisional there in 1974 in the blue Cuda. Don and I were so excited, jumped on the mini bike to go to shutdown area. Don thought I was on, took off, and I butt planted in front of the bleachers, which were packed (not seen often since!). Those were the good ole days!

Re: Sacramento Raceway

The Pomona divisional I referenced earlier was in August of 2001 or 02. It was held in early August and it was miserably hot. Your comment of the heat is certainly well founded. A year or so ago, we had Winternationals on the last weekend of July, it was pretty bad. We started about 10:30 or so, got two runs in during the absolute heat of the day, and round one was about 6:30 or 7 PM. It absolutely kicked our collective posteriors. Even if you had a motor home with A/C, you had to come outside and face it sometime. That's the kind of heat that takes about half the next week to recover from. They even moved the annual county fair from September to May just because of the heat. April or May or even mid October would be pretty nice.

A Pomona Divisional in late February to replace the Double Divisional in Phoenix we lost would be perfect.

Re: Sacramento Raceway

I’ve long thought that a National Open at Bakersfield the week prior to Pomona would be 1) fast and 2) give us West Coaster’s a chance to set records in the same kind of air that places like Orlando, Gainesville, Maple Grove, Atco, Houston (before it closed…) etc. get at times without the penalty.

To prevent the spread of misinformation on social media, we’d like to send out this official announcement:

Due to the influx of rumors going around about the potential closure of Sacramento Raceway, we would like to issue an official SRP statement with full transparency for our valued racers and patrons who have supported the track for more than 5 decades.

There is a potential buyer lined up for the land that SRP owns and operates. The sale is by no means official yet, and we will issue a statement if and when it is. We understand how frustrating this can be for you all and we will update you as soon as possible this season. The current timeline is around September of 2023…we will know whether or not the sale is official. If at that point in time it does go through, we will finish out the remainder of the 2023 season and SRP would be officially closed by 2024. If the sale does not go through, we will continue operating for as long as possible.

We appreciate all your support and whether or not the sale goes through, we hope to see you at the track this season!

These closures, or "potential" closures, are really dampening my hopes of competing....still not quitting though. Anyone else here skeptical of the Phoenix closure?

I know Top Gun's website was shared earlier, but here's a link to their GoFundMe page.

Young folks like yourself are the reason the racers here are posting. We all want the younger generation to experience what we have.
Hope to see you at the races.

In my opinion this subject should be TOP PRIORITY of all the next upcoming Meetings of our elected Representatives that are supposed to be our voice of the Racers .
Forget how they can try and change the AHFS !!!!
How about getting to some real issues our sport has coming up and forget about how to change the AHFS again .
All the emails I’ve ever seen have been suggesting how the AHFS can be fair and it would be nice to hear more about what possible solutions they have for the Lack of places we have to Race …
