16 V Battery
Hello, Which agm 16 volt battery do you prefer?
XS power batteries or TurboStart, or something else? Thank`s Torbjorn Laas Sweden |
Re: 16 V Battery
XS battery's. But what ever AGM 16 V you buy MAKESURE its packaged correctly so it will arrive with no damage. I have had several damaged in shipping especially the 76 lb group 27 ones. They are heavy!
Good luck, Steve Teeter Stk/SS 620 |
Re: 16 V Battery
I have an old pair of 16V Turbo starts that are at least 10 years old and work perfectly. In my other car, I have a pair of Turbo starts that both died in about one year. Based on that, I am thinking that something has gone wrong with Turbo Start's manufacturing process. I have switched over to XS, no problems so far.

Re: 16 V Battery
I've got one of the 16 volt chargers that went down, and no one can work on the expensive boat anchor, you can't buy parts for it, either.
I'd rather have a good 12 volt AGM or lithium battery. |
Re: 16 V Battery
For a fuel injected car with all the sensors maybe, but a waste of money in my book.

Re: 16 V Battery
Asisde from spinning the starter faster what is the reasoning/purpose for using a 16v on a car with minimal electrical useage? Is it for powering the ignition when not charging with an alternator?

Re: 16 V Battery
For a Stocker with working alternator (as per the rules  ) I would not bother with it but for a Super Stocker without alternator I could see it useful .
I found that lithium 12V battery's spin engines pretty good :) |

Re: 16 V Battery
I now have several years of experience with 16-volt systems. I do not see any advantage to the 16-volt battery, and I have returned to a 12 volt with alternator. I now think that overall, the 12 volt has the most advantages.

Re: 16 V Battery
I put one in my stocker last year. Fuel pump works better, with the fan and water pump running I can cool my car in about half the time that I used to, maybe less than that.

Re: 16 V Battery
It is nice how fast those 16V batteries charge !

Re: 16 V Battery
I personally prefer the 16V. I also agree with SS3011 on how fast the 16V charge.

Re: 16 V Battery
I use a 12v with an East Coast mini alternator, it's an Optima red top battery. Weighs 46 lbs had it for 7 years and counting with zero issues. Cooling? I run a large aluminum radiator and big fan and CSR water pump and never have to let the fan run when back in the pits or after a run. I also use an Anti Gravity lithium which weighs 3 1/2 lbs when I want to get some weight off the nose. I can adjust the valves with the little one and spin it over to fog it or start over and over. It charges in minutes. No issues with either battery.

Re: 16 V Battery
When I run A/SA with my car I have to take a lot of weight out of the rear. I use the light weight 16 volt 9 lb battery's BP
