New Texas Track ??
I heard there is a new dragstrip being built "20 miles east of Dallas".Has anyone heard anything about this? I've seen nothing on TV news or in the DFW newspapers about it. It's supposedly a concrete track to be called DALLAS RACEWAY.
Maybe a new Caddo Mills track ??? |
Re: New Texas Track ??
Well, it's an IHRA track, 1/4-mile, and there's a Summit Pro Am Series race scheduled there at the end of August. That's all I know about it, can't look it up on the IHRA website because the member track portion of the website isn't up during the website makeover..

Re: New Texas Track ??
You can find a lot of the 'old' site if you know where to look... Luckily, most of the older info on the site follows the naming conventions that I used when I ran the website, so I was able to 'backdoor' find points and results archives when I was doing research for Drag Review stories last month. I wish they would've kept everything running while developing the new site(s).
Last update of the directory was in October, so no mention of the Dallas track. http://www.ihra.com/tracks/index.html I would've thought that a new track (Dallas) and a new-to-IHRA track (State Capitol) mentioned in the Div. 4 schedule press release would've warranted major stories. Hope Dallas doesn't run into Mansfield-like delays. |
Re: New Texas Track ??
Isn't Frank Khotek the IHRA rep in that area ?? But I can't find anything on the IHRA site....and I've searched the web with no luck.
Maybe it's a complete redo of Caddo Mills..??? Maybe even take the bump out ........ :-) |
Re: New Texas Track ??
The member track list is still there, but hasn't been updated to include the new "Dallas track." If it's only 20 miles east, it's a lot closer to Dallas than "Toronto Motorsports Park" is to Toronto!!

Re: New Texas Track ??
After more searching I found it's builder is Kenny Barnes and being build just east of Crandall. That's on hiway 175 SE of Dallas.....MUCH closer to Dallas than Ennis !!! I think it's been under construction for a while and having probs with the neighbors trying to stop the construction. I'll drive out that way this weekend or next week to check it out.

Re: New Texas Track ??
I saw the track site about 10 weeks ago. My first impression, it has much potential! There appears to be enough land/room to hold a large car count. I estimate it could house a National event. The location is about 12 ? 14 miles South East of Dallas Loop 635.
As the Crow flies, it is about 20 ? 25 miles North/East of the Ennis Motorplex. The location [in my opinion] is very good. It is within a 2-hour drive for a large number of racers. At that 10 week ago date, it appeared most mechanical systems, buildings and road bases were in place. Looked like it just needed paving. And yes, home building near the area is booming so homes are now closer to the track than when track construction began. I hope it happens and IHRA has a National even there. That would be a great boost for local racers. Larry Woodfin |
Re: New Texas Track ??
Hope things go well for them. Two major tracks in a single major market... should be interesting. Also kinda like the Norwalk/Mansfield/Columbus thing....

Re: New Texas Track ??
Now if Bruton Smith builds a dragstrip at his TEXAS Motor Speedway north of Fort Worth ...!!!
|
Re: New Texas Track ??
Unless Bruton starts his own drag racing series, Billy Meyer's contract with NHRA would prevent Bruton from building a track at TMS under NHRA sanction.

Re: New Texas Track ??
We have not set the date in stone yet, but will be installing a full Fiber Optic Compulink timing system in Jan/Feb '08.

Re: New Texas Track ??
Sounds like they are building a first-class facility...

Re: New Texas Track ??
Here is a copy of a post at Moparts.com:
Finally got to Kenny Barnes's place and took some pics. They are posted here http://edholio.smugmug.com/gallery/3961680#230172614 If you click on the pic or place your cursor over the pic a caption will display describing the vantage point and what is in the pic. It actually worked out really well that I was not able to take pics in the evening. Kenny pulled in right when I got out of the truck. So, I got the dime tour. These are the things that I remember from the half hour I spent w/Kenny. - 1/4 mile all concrete - 16 staging lanes all concrete - 15 acres of pits all concrete - concrete barriers length of track - all bathrooms are air conditioned - all Musco Sports lighting - track has its own ambulance - track has its own fire truck - all timing is fiber optic - waste disposal for motor homes - digital scales - no curfew - will run both 1/8 and 1/4 - conforms to ALL 2009 IHRA and NHRA track specifications My .02 worth. This will be a SUPER NICE track. It is national event quality track. copied from the local mustang site |
Re: New Texas Track ??
Was there two weeks ago and still no concrete poured. They were regrading the pits as there was a mistake by the engineer on the original grade heights. The track looked to have the base ready to start pouring but at this time of the year pouring concrete in a single pour is risky at best. Also Kenny told me that IHRA told him that if he poured all concrete that they would not give him a race. Looks like he will put in some asphault after the eighth mile. When he gets it complete it will be a very nice place to race. The only problem is there are already to many race tracks in the DFW area which really dilutes the car counts at all of them. We will have to see how this plays out with the Motorplex, Kennedale, Denton, Rusk (if they are still going next year), Red Line and Red River all within two and a half hours of Dallas.

Re: New Texas Track ??
Y'all just need more PEOPLE! ;-) I've got 8 tracks less than 2 hrs from the house. It is challenging for all the tracks to work together.

Re: New Texas Track ??
I have been by the track several times and I think they would be able to attract more paying fans by building seating in a hi-rise bowl kind of like ennis vs the bleachers they are installing. I would also build them right at the edge of the track, too far back and you lose the "excitement/feel" for racing...think street racing. Whatever..........
