Re: RIP Woodro Josey
No matter if Woody was driving a Chevy, Pontiac or a MoPar, he was a winner and larger than life. One of the true innovators of FI in Stock and SS. I was once told when I was younger by another racer "If you're gunna pick Woodro's brain you better bring a wheel barrow!" I am truly proud to have been able to call him my friend. R.I.P. Woody. Love you man! Jim

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
So sad to hear, I became friends with he and Linda 30+ years ago when I worked for TRW ... and I had him build me a 350 engine for my Corvette I/SA back in the early-mid 90's.
God Bless him |
Re: RIP Woodro Josey

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
Very sad. I talked to him earlier this year and knew he was not doing well, but this is a shock. I always considered Woodro to be too big to pass. He was legendary in his life and will be even more legendary now. Prayers and sympathies to Linda. . . My friend since 1976.
We always picked at each other and joked. The best I got to him was putting his "Woodro Josey Racing Engines" license plate upside down on Mike Mayronne's Camaro at Indy in 1983. He came to me in the Barn and asked if I was mad at him, but I told him I was from Arkansas and didn't know how to read so I didn't know it was upside down. We laughed for decades about that. A great racer, an innovator, and a good friend. |
Re: RIP Woodro Josey

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
What I remember most about Woodro was how he unselfishly helped so many people. It wasn't about money with Woody, he really cared, and he always went the extra mile to support our sport. R.I.P. My friend

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
Woodro was a great engine builder, competitor, and friend. He has touched much of the racing community in his many years of racing, myself included. When I first started racing, there was always much to learn about stock eliminator engines from Woodro. He always had words of encouragement and advice. He will be greatly missed. RIP Woody

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
Many have spoken of Woodro as an engine builder, a racer and a friend. He also worked for a time on Div. ll tech team. I asked him once if he did that to figure out what he might be able to get away with. He just grinned. RIP Woodro.

Re: RIP Woodro Josey
My first memory of Woodrow was not a good one. It was my first bracket race in the late 80s. I had him first round, he was there testing the weekend before the Southern Nationals. He put a .005 light on me and ran the number. We talked a while after that and I realized how smart and talented the guy was, at the time I was just a teen and he talked to me, not down to me. Great racer and friend.
RIP you will be missed. |
Re: RIP Woodro Josey
Best thoughts and well wishes to all of Woodro's friends and family. Sorry for your loss.
I had a brother pass in 2006 which is hard, but I found that they are always with you, when you look back and remember the fun you had together. I came across a video this morning of Woodro from 1987 If any of you have classic race car movies to transfer to DVD, I can offer advice. These tapes last longer than the 10 year estimates that were given them when new. But... you never know when a fire, flood, natural disaster will take them out. A DVD or youtube transfer is worth considering. At least put them in a climate controlled room, out of sunlight, maybe in a tote that is not sealed tight, not too hot / cold, not damp, etc. this is worth sharing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiL_CrWwQYs |
