Covid-19 Facts
1 Attachment(s)
Good morning all. I thought I'd start a separate thread with some Covid-19 facts that were provided by my daughter who is an infectious diseases Doctor that works in N.Y.C. She wrote this for me yesterday with the intention of helping to dispel some of the panic and fear. Yes this is a serious thing, but common sense and more knowledge is always a good thing. The numbers are for comparison purposes to the Flu, and you likely won't hear it from the media. I just want all our racers and their families to be more informed so they can make better decisions for their lives. It's a lot of data, but worthy of the time .
Please be safe and let's hope we can get back to racing soon. God Bless. Walt |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
Sorry folks........ the second page doesn't open for some reason unknown by me. It mainly talks about percentages and how they will vary based on the testing priorities, plus following the distancing instructions, good hygiene and avoiding contact with your face. That to me will be the challenge. How often do we touch our face and not even realize it.
Stay safe. Walt |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
Is this published somewhere so we can read the second page? It's well written and I would like to be able to read the rest of it. Thank her for writing it for us.

Re: Covid-19 Facts
At this time your chances of testing positive are .00027%. 80% of those who test positive have mild sysptoms. 12% have no sysptoms. 60% of those that have passed away are 80 years or older.
The swine flu killed 12,600 americans and sickened 50 million. I don't remember any of this kind of madness going on. Every year 12,000 to 14,000 Americans die from the flu. Doesn't make the news right? Keep yourself rested and eating healthy. This will be behind us by mid May to early June according to a microbiologist I work with. Just like a normal flu season |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
Curtis: I'll have to re-scan it and convert it to a jpg. Then I'll attach it.
Yo Ken had to help me the 1st time around, but I think it had to do with the size. Page 2 is shorter. I have to do this from work, hopefully this afternoon. Thanks for your compliment on my daughter's writing. She's a brilliant Lady and I'm amazed she's mine to be honest. Please stand by. Walt |

Back then systems and responsive leadership were in sync to deal with the Pandemic. We were communicating on a sane basis with other countries and sharing information. We already had a Flu Vaccines out to help people from further infections. The systems worked, few people died compared to the 50 million were affected. CV19 today the US leadership ignored the issue and calling it a hoax. There is no Vaccine for CV19 and will not be available for a year. The Agency that deals with global diseases was shut down two years ago. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ease-outbreak/ |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
One of my old chemistry professors posted some information that I think is helpful to understand the differences between this and the seasonal flu. I feel like there's so much out there that's either "This is a pandemic, everybody needs to panic" (but doesn't explain why) or "Look at the number of cases, the flu infects and kills way more people than COVID-19 does each year" (without looking at how fast it's growing from a single source or clarifying how it does differ).

Great post Andrew and thanks for sharing. Hopefully it will be taken to heart by those who continue to believe that this is being over hyped and sensationalized.

Re: Covid-19 Facts
The numbers between the "flu" and COVID-19 are deceptive so here are some stats for comparing Influenza and COVID-19.
Influenza: cases per year (average) 1,000,000,000 deaths per year (average) 291,000 calculated death rate 0.029% COVID-19 cases to date 222,643 deaths to date 9115 calculated death rate 4.09% Please take this seriously. All numbers worldwide. Technical Stuff Influenza and COVID-19 are both a Chronavirus. Novel (new) Chronavirus, now named COVID-19 is the illness. The virus that causes it is named SARS-CoV-2 Read Here:https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...019-vs-the-flu |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
The scary part is there could be a lot more infected people than what has been reported and they can be moving around the country infecting scores of others.
My nephew was an employee on the Diamond Princess cruise ship and was tested along with all the other employees even the ones with no symptoms. He tested positive and was placed in isolation in a hospital in Japan. During his stay they tested him about 4 or 5 times (he needed two consecutive negatives to be released) After 19 days he was finally cleared and was able to leave the country. He never experienced any flu like symptoms the whole time and if he wasn't tested he would never had known he was carrying the virus. He could have taken it home to family and friends and caused a local outbreak. |
Re: Covid-19 Facts
I’m getting my information straight from Doc Hudson (Ashton). He’s on the front lines as an ER doctor. He told me today they need to find a vaccine soon......until they do people will continue to panic even months from now....and yes he has to get into that suit and treat patients with coronavirus. Some have been very very sick..scary stuff people..

You know that funding was restored before that happened right? Your source is from 2018. Facebook might be a better place for that post. Curtis |

Trump cut CDC funding, prevented CDC from helping other counties, ended. Gutted the group that handles pandemics.. Tell me BILLY where was it absorbed in HHS. BTW HHS is a mile from my office...in Rockville Md Then with bi-partisan support only some funding was restored by Congress.. Why would you cut funding to the CDC and gut whole agencies designed to help us? Especially designed to mitigate pandemics Then deny that you did it. Making comments like People are dying that never died before..! Trump is like the Capitan of the Titanic. Warned about the path being taken and the Ice Bergs. Hits them anyway. Doesn’t send out a distress signal on the Marconi! Until way too damn late. Telling the passengers don’t worry we have enough boats. Your inconvenience does not trump our counties safety ! Had trump any sense of running a government. He would have used the DLA designed to help organize infrastructure. Hey randy ...got your name calling.. Typical response when you have nothing except denial and cult responses.. |

You’re the one that from your very first post on this virus brought in politics, you start the blame game on the administration with your lies, in fact the CDC funding goes up every year and always has that is why are deficit is what 21 trillion, so quit lying. I am not very PC and never will be, so like a typical CULT liberal you can dish it out but can’t take it, surprised you haven’t called me a racist. Your Kenyan President let 12,000 people die with H1N1, where was he at on that, nowhere. Oh yeah this is the Chinese Virus right, or I must be a Xenophobe. Randy Wells Wells Bros C/SA 5034 |

CDC budget rose $550,000 from 2019 to 2020. source, cdc.gov.
Dan, I don't care if your office is within "spitting distance" of the CDC. |

Re: Covid-19 Facts
Here's a non-political fact: My daughter has been exposed to it by a VA Social worker that is a parent of an autistic child. She is on a self-imposed lock down at her home. She is a BCBA that works with parents and autistic children. TriCare would not pay for teleconferencing that would have prevented the contact. The bulk of her clients are active duty military parents that are insured by TriCare in the northern Virginia area.

An elderly cousin from Throggs Neck, NY has tested positive for the virus. Her doctor has changed some of her meds and she is resting at home for the time being. Hoping that this does not spread throughout this tight-net family.

Re: Covid-19 Facts
I live on Long Island next to nyc. It’s a hot spot here.
PrAying for the best for all involved. I know some sick friends and or their families and Some are not going to be here soon. Some may have also life changing problems for this virus time will tell. Building where I work is infected and getting fully cleaned. Some people will not stay home when they are sick. Can’t fix stupid. In terms of working and who does, I See that 7/11 Dunkin’ Donuts and all sorts of garbage stores are open and considered essential which is rediculous. Along w land scapers. So who is making money here? Not native New Yorkers. Who turns out to be essential is ridiculous. I don’t support these stores. Today we found out Starbucks is essential. I hope and pray for my friends businesses who can’t open survive and flourish again. I look forward to getting to a divisional and watching stock and supe stock qualifiers. My fav part. Chris O. |
