Live from the Baby Gators

Made the trip up to Gainesville Monday yes Monday and was probably 75th in line.Sportsman racing is alive and well, its crazy but I'm glad to see the turn out. Wednesday is the TnT day and I need it to work on a SG ratio I also have some maintenance stuff to do so its going to be a busy day. Were still having an issue with the coach batteries and it looks like the inverter is the issue so that's something else to look at. Live on the road you've got to love it and we do (just another little bump in the road).

Well SG testing went about as I though. I have a new found respect for anyone running in that class. Its back to my world for the divisional race this weekend. There where a lot of cars testing and I knew there would be. It always seem to be issues getting it done here. I wish there was a little more organization it might cut down on the confusion and stress.

Got my one and only time run this morning. It was slower then I though it would be we ran 10.96 glad to be back in S/St. Raining right now I think they ran everything scheduled to run. We're first out in the morning at 8:00 I believe for our one an only run. Got to love it.

Re: Live from the Baby Gators

Ray and Dave thanks. SG is tough with a low HP heavy car. During the TnT seemed like they where holding the tree a bit an that made it hard to hit the tree. My last time run I had a mediocre light if I had started with that I'd of felt a lot better. My plan is to put more gear in it after the baby Gators hopefully that will help.

Robbie 1st round Mark Smith runs 10.85 @180 mph!!! surely that aint right, that would be the fastest ever in super street.

Hows it going Robbie ?

Re: Live from the Baby Gators

Well I was a 1st round runner up AGAIN.This -1000 air then half way normal was too tough for me to deal with. Looks like I was on a 10.92 pass and with a 039 light I was a setting duck. Congrats to the winners and RUs in S/St Les Harris over Mike Griggs I think this was Les's 1st win SG Greg Slack over Jason Kenny SC Jason Bator over Troy Williams. Now for the down time between races. I've got some work to do for the Gator Nats I'm putting more gear in the car (and I don't have a spare carrier) so gotta build a 3rd member not that big a deal just a pain in the BUTT. Then their's the normal on the road stuff do the laundry, fill the motor home water tank ect ,ect yea I know stop complaining. We went to the Blue Agave Mexican restaurant yesterday food was good company was excellent margaritas where great (I was told). Photos to come, were still having issues with photos but we have them. Oh also I never heard any talk of a S/St car going 180 mph but I'll ask around.

Although he goes 157-8 mph it did show as 180 one run. Lol

Yeah, I looked at the time slip and knew something was wrong, I knew he didn't come by me at 180! They had several clock issues over the weekend from what I could tell.

Re: Live from the Baby Gators

I asked around the 180 mph was bogus.

The dreaded hot dog wrapper. He said he was on a .89 pass

That adds up. The difference in trap time between 155 and 180 is just a hair over 4 hundredths.

I had a similar thing happen in St Louis a few years back in Super Comp. I was on the brakes hard and the ET slip showed what I figured I would have run wide open, and at 185. My car went 172 or something at that time.

I won the round anyway, as did Mark. Wonder what the officials would have done if it didn't work out that way in either case.

nickh 03-10-2020 07:37 PM

Re: Live from the Baby Gators

Thanks Robbie, I now several SST cars that can run 175+ wide open, but thought what were his TS settings..LOL love your reporting, keep up the good work and grab a couple Wally's this year.

Thanks Nick, we're going to try but I'm stinking it up pretty bad right now. The Gators are going to be interesting (finish line stopping). I hope to be able to go 9.90 at 110 mph. I went 119 in testing and needed to slow down alot.

Well we had another great evening with friends yesterday at dinner (thanks Rich and Marianne) Cedar River was great as always and the story telling was awesome. Our dinner hosts were Rich and Marianne Pica (thanks). Rudy and Ruth Mathews, Ricky Hall, Dean Mathauser, Craig Porter, Johnny Cobb and Teresa and I. A good time was had by all. Yesterday Ricky and I did a little fishing, we didn't catch anything but we had a couple hits. Maybe today we'll try again.

Re: Live from the Baby Gators

Robbie there have been some success in doing that. We had a guy in Div 4 doing that. He won several IHRA races 9.90 at 106 to 110. Watch your wind, spoke to that racer a while back and he said judging wind was big. In Oklahoma at a divisional in the final runner up blew a front runner out and slapped the wall (nothing major), other driver could not judge closing rate. Love that Ford, need some Wally's to go ontop of the fireplace LOL
