I can't seem to get logged in to NHRA to download the latest rule book. Is an SA2010 open faced helmet still legal in a 10 second and slower car?

Greg, I believe the SA2010 cert will expire next year, no matter what.

Correct: Jan 1,2021 I believe they are no longer legal

Incorrect. The Snell 2010 helmets expire Jan 1, 2022. You are good through the full 2021 season.

And, probably they way it should be and not a money grab. Really, how does a helmet go bad?

Probably not going "bad", but updates in safety/construction would be my guess. Look at how the older helmets didn't have the "cheek supports" and would roll around on your noggin if you shook your head.

The way it is set up it could be for as little as 7 years or as many as 12..

So if you needed a helmet in 2014, all you could buy was a 2010 cert.

Buy a Simpson full face. If your face ever hits that steering wheel your teeth will thank ya. BTW they one of a very few companies that show up to the races and support us. Good people and a great product.

Knowing my helmet would run out next year I went ahead and bought a Simpson last month because I didn’t want to run into back orders etc. it is an SA 2020 and I have already gotten paid for it. that was the only company I saw Paying Contingency at a divisional level

You can run a 2010 through the end of this year. Then you'll need a SA2015 (or M2015) at minimum.

When my daughters raced Jr,s they always had Simpson( because I was paying) Allan at the Simpson trailer always made them feel like they were racing in the pro ranks. Great product and great people.

How long is an NHRA drag racing helmet good for?

According to the 2021 NHRA Rulebook, Section 21, page 46, sub sec. 10-7 "Helmet". The date code SA2010 helmet is good for 12 years, or until Jan. 1, 2022. The date code SA2015 helmet is good until Jan. 1, 2027. Jim
