Re: Alan Peters Sr.
He won the Allstars three years in a row as well as several Divisional and National Events. Did it with a Stick. He was a special driver.

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
First Dave LeBrun, now Alan Peters, two great racers from Connecticut have left us in a short time.
Rest in peace Alan, you were very good to me when I first started racing and I never forgot it. |
Re: Alan Peters Sr.
I'm very sorry to hear of Alan's passing. He was a legendary competitor and I consider myself lucky to be counted as one of his friends. I'm sure he and Dave will be doing some great bench racing up in Heaven.

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Raced at the Dover Drag Strip in Wingdale, N.Y. against Alan in the mid ‘70s while he raced his white Camaro convertible in L/S. Excellent stick racer. I believe he was NHRA Stock world Champ for 1984. Rest In Peace.

Never got to meet the man, heard lots of good things. My former partner, Mike Smith was in a restaurant with Al after substanial consumption of "adult beverages". While talking to the waitress about their racing, Mike told her, "And he's the World Champion". The effect of the alcohol on Al seemed to leave her less than impressed. lol |

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Had some epic battles with Al, and yes , he had fun at the track. We both ran sticks in usually J,K,or L stock at that time. He did it all, D1 champ, World Champ, record holder.
Rest in Peace my friend |
Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Watched him WIN many rounds when I was a youngster and got to know him well when he relocated to Florida. He was bad Azz......He had a zest for life that included many of the bad habits. GODSPEED my friend.....

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Was runner up to Alan ( as a lot of people were) in my first National event final in the early 80s.When a couple of Div.1 loud mouths came over and started to harass me at the decal check, Alan ran over and told them to shut up,and move on.He was a very consistent light cutter. He wasn't always killer on the tree, but always green, and good.RIP Alan

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
One of the best Stock Eliminator racers of his time, 3 All Stars wins and always a threat to win, even after staying up all night in the pits having a great time. RIP Al !

Re: Alan Peters Sr.

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
"Endless Flight" was a convertible.
|
Re: Alan Peters Sr.
He ran the white convertible during the mid 70’s in L/stick, then transitioned to the silver hardtop he ran in J & K stick later which was the “Endless Flight” he won the World Championship with in’84.

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Thanks for the correction Mark, the black vinyl top flawed my memory. Man he could drive that thing with amazing consistency.
I still can't believe we lost Dave and Alan within days of each other. For a small state Connecticut has had some great drag racers and also NASCAR Modified drivers as well. |

Actually, it was an earlier incarnation of the same car that had Endless Flight on the front fender. (Peters and Hozan) There's a new pic on the CT Dragway F/B page, of Alan and Dave racing each other. Sad times, for sure . And for those who think they might race again, better get with it. (Am I talking to myself again?) |

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Hi Everyone,
A friend pointed out this conversation, so I thought I would pop in and say Hello. I am Al's youngest, Colleen. I just wanted to say thank you all for saying such nice things about my dad. He was taken from us too soon. We are trying to summarize his accomplishments on the drag strip--I had to make a spreadsheet to try to keep track of all his wins! The trophies have moved around over the years, so we are trying to piece it all together... It's so nice to know he had such an awesome network of fellow racers and friends. He will be missed. We would be delighted to see anyone that would like to pay their respects on Saturday. I know that the reception on Saturday is not so traditional, but nor was Al Peters! We picked the place because it is on the water, in the town where he grew up... and it has a full bar! He wouldn't go the hospital without a drink, nor would he go anywhere else! We would all love to hear your stories and memories. If anyone has photos, please feel free to email them to me, we will have a slideshow of all the good times on and off the track. Thanks everyone for all the good thoughts, Colleen (and Rosemary, Maureen and Alan Jr) |

Won Indy in 1975 with Al's J/S 1969 2 barrel 350 combination. Al and I traded the J and L/Stick national records back and forth a few times. Raced each other several times and he beat me in the finals at the 1978 Grandnationals in stock eliminator as I recall. Good times and memories. Al and I had similar engineering backgrounds and many common likes and dislikes so it was always fun to bs at the races. Al was a true gentleman and fun to race with and against. Don |
Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Thank you so much for your kind words Don. :-)

Re: Alan Peters Sr.
Don We are having a Dave LeBrun Alan Peters Memorial Race at Lebanon Valley on Sunday June 23 in conjunction with the ASRA association. So far with all the commitments from supporter it's starting to look like one of the largest one day purses we have seen for a Stock/ Super Stock race. It is also the week before the Lebanon Valley Lucas Oil Points meet. If you pre pay at the Memorial Race for the Lucas Race you can leave your rig there. The ASRA has a race on Saturday June 22 and anyone can race it. The track is also donating a drum of VP fuel to the person with the highest points for the 2 days. You don't have to be a member to win the track money or the money posted for the Memorial Race. If you have any questions or would like to donate to the Memorial fund please contact me at (413) 579-7729 or at bgp1614@aol.com Thanks to all that have been in touch and are sending a contribution to the race.
