Live from Gainesville
Well not quite yet but we'll make the short trip from the camp ground to the track in the morning. We've been RVing since last Monday and I'm ready to race. We took a 75 mile ride today just to look around and came across Camp Blanding the National Guard training camp some cool stuff to look at there. The museum was closed but they had a lot of old military equipment to check out (pretty cool). Here are some photos from our stay in Waldo and our ride today.
Now this is a motley crew http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5fzqnssd.jpg Craig told us about Freddy's, some pretty good fast food. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psmt6tebzc.jpg http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6jsetf7l.jpg Off to there new home???? http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psojho6fhl.jpg |

Re: Live from Gainesville
Thanks guys, well were in and parked and because I'm not running the Gators I have a great spot. I here a lot of people are not happy and are planning on withdrawing and not coming to this race again. I'm not sure why they've made the parking situation the way they have but there's a lot of unhappy racer's here. On a lighter note I've checked over the car and been thru tech and ready to test tomorrow. I'm hoping for a better out come here, we'll see.

Re: Live from Gainesville
Well with 35 Pro Mods entered plus 100 stockers (including the Factory Stock Showdown cars), alcohol, PS bikes, TF Harley, TD, TS, etc they’ve intentionally packed the place to maximize the spectator draw. Lots of racers unhappy when they have to park on the road course (2.75 miles round trip including the run) and get their cars hot just getting to staging.
Sounds like those running just the division race got the far better deal. Good luck Robbie. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Go get 'em Robbie!

Re: Live from Gainesville
I don't understand why they don't allow racers to tow their cars at least to the main pit area when they have situations like this. I ran at Gateway years back, and we were pitted in the Nascar track, the only class allowed to tow was Super Comp. It was ridiculous how far we were from staging. You didn't feel like you were part of the event.
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
Thanks Dave we're going to try, Carl I think they'll be allowed to tow. If the road to the road course was better it might not be quite as bad except for the distance and like you said not feeling like your part of the race. Its just not good, a lot of racers wont be back next year. Monday well be interesting!

Re: Live from Gainesville

Re: Live from Gainesville
Rick your welcome and we are. We ran the TnT yesterday and found some performance that was right under my noise. We wont be able to see how much until we can run flat out again, we'll probably go to Bradenton in a couple weeks to see. It looks like they've worked out some of the parking issues letting races that are staying for the Gator park out side of the rear gate, that was a good call. We start time runs this morning at 9AM and S/St is first out. Here are some photos from the TnT.

Re: Live from Gainesville
Does anyone know the run schedule for Sat. morning.???
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
Bill,
From what I heard on D3TV, Super Stock & Gas were getting another time run and the rest were going right into first round. Now does that mean SS & SG are out first I'm not sure. I know they have Juniors scheduled for 2 Time Runs tomorrow and Alky is supposed to run at 1pm for 1st round. Rob |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Thanks Robbie for all the reports and pictures, good luck to you and Craig. Dang wish I was there. Say hello to the godfather of super street (Lamar S.)for me. I will be watching on D3tv tomorrow.

Re: Live from Gainesville
Well I started the day yesterday in a mad thrash my fuel pump started leaking (BAD). I tried fixing the pump that was on the car all the while they're calling S/St for our first time run. Finally taking the old pump off and get the back up PP back together (I took parts off that PP to try and fix the other) and it ran with no leaks(thank goodness). I get up to the staging lanes and the last S/St car is doing a burn out (oh well). I asked the NHRA guy if I can run and to my surprise he said I can run after stock thank you NHRA. My fist pass was a 10.86 not bad second pass was a 10.92 I can live with that. One think of note there's been a number of on track incidents yesterday. I believe 4 cars either lost control or crashed. Not sure who or how bad, I was just listening to the announcer and it seemed like one after the other where having trouble. Today its Jrs out first at 8:30 for a time run then we go right into first round. I'm not sure of the rest of the schedule but SG and SS get there 2nd time rum today. No photos to post from yesterday, my photographer accidently deleted them. I'm going to fire her if she keeps that up. hehehe

Re: Live from Gainesville
Well as you may know our Gainesville race is over in the 1st round. I made the wrong decision on the throttle stop and was way slow. Watching the rest of the 1st round there where a lot of slow S/St cars. The plan now is to crew and spectate at the Gators and enjoy the race. Here's photos from yesterday. I did see one really cool car, a 66 or 67 Nova station wagon running S/Comp (and #1 qualifier) way cool!

Re: Live from Gainesville
Well we're still here, going to be pulling crew duty's at the Gators hopefully we'll be racing in them next year. So you want to be a travelling racer its a tuff life and not suited to everyone. Here's some of the stuff you have to endure to make it. First its the never ending search for good places to eat (we found a few) here's Cedar River in Starke one of my favorite places.
http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psk1yaqewl.jpg Then there was also Randy's Ribs in Waldo. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...pskdrpsmdk.jpg We also had some good company over for dinner. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5hodywwj.jpg Chuy's Mexican in Gainesville was also good. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9zlzihl5.jpg |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Then there's also the constant physical training to try and stay in shape. (We're losing that battle). There's go cart racing. Teresa couldn't participate her back was not up to it.
http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psbliw0obj.jpg http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psl41zvtff.jpg http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psejtql55a.jpg Look at those smiles. I think we may of found the fountain of youth. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...pso8zkrtkp.jpg Then there was Putt Putt Golf to keep our concentration skills sharp. (Yea right) http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psscec1ygd.jpg Tiger Woods tough Teresa this stance. http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...psxs0qxzzt.jpg http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/...pse9pwb1z4.jpg As you can see it's not for everyone but if you get a chance I advise you give it a try. You never know you could be the next John Force. I want to thank our friends Rudy & Ruth Matthews and Paul & Rose Richardson for helping to make this trip so much fun. That's really why we do this. Have Fun. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
How's the Gators Robbie ?
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
So far our Gator experience has been good. The class cars are crazy fast and I'm looking forward to Factory Stock it could be historic. Photos to come.
