Trust between Racers !
 

Seeing some of the problems racers have when buying and selling parts its nice to deal with someone that trust goes both ways. Just did a deal with J Allen Sherman who doesn't know me and I don't know him, but everything was done before the cash was sent! Wish everything was that way!! Looking forward to doing business with Allen again!!

I've only had issues on one dealing and since I didn't lose any money I can't complain; just bought a trailer from a private party in Florida and after discussion with the person I felt confident the trailer would be as advertised and he was confident I'd show up with the cash as I indicated so we were both happy. Short of having my dog with me all the time (I never like a person my dog doesn't like) I can generally tell if someone might be flaky after talking with them for a while. Don't think anyone wants to be called out on this or any other forum (or heaven forbid social media) that you've been a member of for some time. The current "alert" thread is unfortunate; for the most part I think I would trust just about any of the active members. Sometimes such threads end up being two people with wildly divergent accounts on what transpired (car tangles in the pits, Pontiacs, etc) but that is far from the norm.

Have never met J Allen, but he obviously backs up what he says so that would be plenty good in my book!

Let me say that I have had NUMEROUS dealings with racers on this site. I have shipped product with an invoice enclosed and have NEVER had a problem receiving my check.....It is nice that this site can EXPOSE a bad apple and save other racers some grief.....MJ.....

Adger Smith sent me parts to see if they would work without paying for them and we have never met. Price wasnt much but the trust was priceless. Jeff

When we decided to build a stocker a few years ago i got on here looking for headers. Reggie Winkles had not a clue of who i was but shipped me a set of headers for me to try before he wanted me to pay for them. I asked him why he trusted me and he said he trusts anybody until you give him a reason not to (or something in that effect).He is a stand up guy!

I've had the pleasure of dealing with MJ Quinn, he was great to work with and delivered an awesome product! Now he is making a couple of Kirkey seat covers for me, I would highly recommend him!:D

MJ Quinn is a good guy, we live in a area that has a lot of S/SS cars and these guys have all give me good advice. My daughter and MJ run in same class with 3rd gen camaros and he still gives me help if i ask what he thanks.

We're all old coots, way past the idea, if ever, of jipping someone. Helping someone feels better than getting what little money you can get.
At least for me that is.

Sold a car to ?friend/racer. Several years later after several months of stories(lies) and me transferring cash for purchase of car and parts I had to take him to court. He spent 2 years in jail as the cars and parts do not exist. Did same thing to Hemi racer on east coast. While out on bond drove to Florida and pulled deal on FORD person for $30K for heads that did not exist.
I am out about more than the cost of two Copo Camaros.New. Do not work with ...

I've bought parts from more than I'll ever be able to remember on this website. Only had one problem. And it took a lawsuit and 3 years to get my money back. I still trust people. I'm just more careful about who I deal with. $10 checking his legal history could have saved me the headache. We have Judici here in Illinois and it's free. If they have a bunch of court cases. Avoid them. I didn't know at the time I could check legal records in his home state for $10 or I would have. And run like hell from the deal.

I got ripped off bad several years ago selling a nice stocker to a "friend". I'm not going to name names but if you know me you probably know the person. I should have paid my lawyer to write up a bullet proof contract (as he frequently reminds me) and it would have been ugly but quickly resolved. It turned out to be a long and costly cluster f*ck that still hasn't been resolved, though it will be eventually, thanks to the lawyer.

The good news is that I'm okay and I can still trust people and go racing. My family didn't suffer. Looking back on it, I can see how I should have done things differently but would I have? I don't know, I'd been friends with the guy for twenty years. I just left myself exposed to someone who took advantage of me.

My advice is keep your eyes wide open and listen to that "little voice" that we all have. When in doubt, consult a lawyer. Cross your T's and dot your I's. I used to wonder why some people took having a title for a race car so seriously--not anymore!

Also, I've tried to do business with reputable racers....Steve Wann, Don Little, Dave and Darren Smith (Pro Trans)....always......always get what is expected.

I've only been screwed twice in 44 years. Once, dealing with a guy who purchases Doug Nash gears, and resells them. I sent him about 100 gears on faith. I won't mention his name. And a couple years ago, a set of 6.250 GRP rods I sent out on faith. Still have only the faith. Cause the $ never showed up.

I just don't play that game. But I have both phone numbers, and neither one even recognizes I'm alive. I've called several times, and they already showed me their true colors. My loss, but they have to live with it.

But in a positive note, I've dealt with several dozen great people who I've trusted, and have trusted me. So the good outnumbers the bad by a bunch. Some people are so trusting it's shocking, and I'd feel like a heel to even try to screw them.
